This is a sponsored review from BlogHer and Seattle’s Best.
You are looking at the final frontier. You see, Bossy and her Unhusband get along swimmingly, as Undivorced couples go, where swimmingly equals occasionally drowning. But typically, they co-parent with ease, divide household chores within Camp Bossy, and even enjoy spending time together.
But then there’s the final frontier. Let’s move in for a closer look:
You see, this coffeemaker represents the crux of disagreements between Bossy and her Unhusband these days. The two of them have always had differing coffee habits, which are made worse now that the Uncouple don’t live under the same roof — although they do still share the kitchen and cooking duties under that very roof, and who’s confused? Bossy’s grocery store, put your hand down.
For starters, Bossy’s Unhusband‘s weekday schedule is dictated by an extremely early start, while Bossy enjoys sleeping until the midday sun has crept along the south side of Bossy’s house, at which point Bossy sleeps an hour more.
In addition, Bossy has favored decaffeinated coffee for the bulk of her married life, while her Unhusband enjoys actually drinking coffee for a purpose.
Caffeine not withstanding, Bossy enjoys a very strong cup of coffee –- the kind of strong that tastes as though you are not only drinking coffee, but drinking coffee and smoking a filter-less cigarette at the same time. On the other hand, Bossy’s Unhusband enjoys, well, a cup of coffee so strong he can watch his chest hair emerge through his shirt buttons.
And then there’s the whole hot thing. Bossy’s coffee has to be served piping hot, even though Bossy doesn’t exactly know what piping is. Bossy heats up the coffee pot before placing it in the coffeemaker’s carriage –- just like Bossy heats up her mug before filling it with coffee. When it comes to the hot thing, Bossy prefers to drink her coffee as close to the brew time as possible.
Diametrically opposed to the hot thing, Bossy’s Unhusband celebrates a cold thing. He prefers his coffee to sit for a small time before drinking, where small time equals hours later when Bossy dumps the neglected cup down the drain and Bossy’s Unhusband is all, “Did you just toss my coffee? I’ve been looking forward to that all month!”
But where was Bossy before she was so rudely interrupted by the Undivorce proceedings? Ah, yes. Coffee. These differences in coffee patterns around Bossy’s household, plus a few more, result in a coffee pot that is rinsed out and reactivated several times in one day simply to service two people.
When Seattle’s Best approached Bossy to try out their new Level System of coffee, Bossy was all in –- if for no other reason than Seattle’s Best recognizes that each person has their own very specific needs when it comes to cohabitation. Er, Bossy meant coffee – very specific needs when it comes to coffee.
The first thing Bossy did was to visit the Levels website to learn more.
The basic deal is that Seattle’s Best is looking to take the confusion out of purchasing coffee by offering five levels of coffee, from mild to robust. And Bossy appreciates anything that takes the confusing away from anything.
Looking over the descriptions, Bossy sees the probability she will enjoy several of these levels depending on the drinking circumstance and time of day — but generally speaking, Bossy thinks she’ll probably favor the stronger coffees found in Seattle’s Best Levels Four and Five.
Bossy will have the chance to taste test all five levels of coffee soon and will report her findings back here. In the meantime, Bossy’s friends at her advertising network, BlogHer, would love to offer one of Bossy’s readers a $100 Amazon gift card! This offering runs through April 17th.
Simply leave a comment below telling Bossy how you take your coffee, and Bossy will employ her friend the Random Number Generator to select a winner!
It’s one comment per person, please, although there are sneaky ways to enter more than once as follows:
a) Leave a comment on this post
b) Tweet about Seattle’s Best Level system and leave the URL to that tweet in a comment on this post

d) For those with no Twitter or blog, read the official rules to learn about an alternate form of entry

April 1, 2011 at 8:12 amWith caffeine, half and half and real sugar. 2 cups early in the AM, then no more caffeine for the day. My hubby is kind of crazy about the hot coffee thing, too. Has to heat up the water, mug, carafe. I like iced coffee, too.

April 1, 2011 at 8:29 amUnfortunately I am a total coffee snob. I only drink it frothy with milk and white chocolate.

April 1, 2011 at 8:44 amI am with Bossy’s husband… High-test no matter the temp. My mate on the otherhand is like Bossy… The hotter the better. He usually pours his less-hot coffee into my cup though… waste-not… want-not…
Maggie says
April 1, 2011 at 8:45 amWe used to have that same Cuisinart pot and now we use a Keurig (with single cups) which is great because my husband and I can each get exactly what we want and each cup is fresh and hot. I prefer a smooth, but tasty blend like Caribou’s day break and he likes a stronger coffee. (BTW, my Kindle really could use refreshing so this giveaway is right up my alley!)
MemeGRL says
April 1, 2011 at 8:51 amI take mine like ice cream–frozen, and supersweet, not really like coffee at all. But my hubby mixes his own half-caf blend and drinks it black all day.

April 1, 2011 at 9:04 amI take my coffee–mild roast, cooled a bit–with lots of creamer and one Truvia, stirred with a baby spoon and gulped around said baby on my hip and a four-year-old hanging on my leg. Then, I have another. 🙂
Tawny says
April 1, 2011 at 9:09 amStrong with 2 sugars 1 creamer – I also enjoy iced coffee and frozen coffee treats that are screaming with sugar and cream. Does it count that I avoid the whipped cream. It totally counts right?
Z. Mulls says
April 1, 2011 at 9:10 amStrong and dark and manly, but then I make it smooth and feminine with 1/2n1/2 and sugar. Yin and yang, baby.
Weekends, I brew a short hi-test pot and work on it all morning, but weekdays I use my trusty AEROPRESS for a strong, clean, rocket-fuel bump. I can drink the output as espresso, but it wracks my slender frame.
Susan says
April 1, 2011 at 9:15 amI like mine freshly brewed via my French Press with lots of chocolate toffee creamer. Yum!

April 1, 2011 at 9:46 amVery hot, pretty strong but not Starbucks burned tasting strong. Pour in 2% milk first, then the coffee, into a very thick mug. Mmmmmmm. Brew up to the “7 cups” mark on the pot. Drink it all.
So you know you’re not alone in the domestic coffee wars, we have 2 coffee makers in our kitchen because the husband drinks decaf, I drink regular. A friend once said, “Isn’t that something you should compromise on in a marriage?” Um, compromise on coffee? NO!
Amy says

the 7msn ranch says
April 1, 2011 at 10:03 amI take my coffee out of a high-altitude coffee maker – I’m not making that up. There really is such a thing and it’s ever so important if you want your coffee to taste like such when you live more than a mile above sea level. Once it drips out of said coffee maker at the perfect hot, but not so hot as to burn your tongue, temperature, then I add a tsp of sugar and a splash of half and half. Now I’ll bet you’re sorry you asked.

April 1, 2011 at 10:06 amThis post made me laugh for so many reasons, but mostly because it reminded me of one of those word games a somewhat conservative friend and I played a long time ago… Where you had to answer questions, seemingly about your thoughts on coffee, ‘hot, creamy, fun’ were some of my answers and hers were more along the lines of ‘bitter, disgusting…’ only to find out the joke of the game was this was really how you felt about sex.
But I digress…
I definitely subscribe to the piping hot ‘coffee for a purpose’ mantra.

Melissa says
April 1, 2011 at 10:17 amI used to drink it black and was a bit snooty toward those that doctored theirs, but I have discovered that a little bit of soy milk adds depth and flavor that makes a really good cup of coffee perfect.
Julie says
April 1, 2011 at 10:21 amJulie likes her coffee in the bag, where she enjoys its fragrance, and in her husband’s mug, where he enjoys its caffeine. The end.

April 1, 2011 at 10:36 amI am coming out of lurkerdom to comment about Seatle’s Best. Okay, the giveaway is a bonus.I have been drinking their coffee back when Level 4 was called Henry’s blend. I first chose Henry’s blend because this is the name of my dog. Shouldn’t we all choose our coffee this way? I loved it so much I am still drinking it today and also love the little tag lines that now come with the different levels. Now if they only had a coffee named Stella you’d be good to go. Oh, and dark, half and half and a splenda. Thanks.

I’m trying to stay away from processed and artifical stuff, but I will use it on special occasions as a treat. Thanks for the giveaway!

April 1, 2011 at 2:03 pmI use a Swiss coffe maker, the most expensive thing I own 🙂 It grinds the beans and has (too many) settings for different types/sizes. So, I start off with a strong 5 oz cup of coffee, and finish the masterpiece by adding one 2.5 oz of espresso. I drink it on my way to work while driving, which explains the many hit and runs I’ve been a part of 🙂

April 1, 2011 at 2:51 pmI love my coffee, 8.5 on a hotness scale and 7.68 on the stong scale. 1 level (not heaping) teaspoon of sugar and .333 or 1/3 of an inch of 2% milk filled at the top of my skinny but tall mug of coffee. I hope this wasn’t too TMI or weird or confusing. I love the taste of coffee and the feeling of the caffine starting to curse (course?) thru my veins which I swear I do feel. 2 cups every morning…I’d drink more but then I get heart palpitations and jitteriness.

April 2, 2011 at 11:35 amlots of good ideas to try….for me, depends on where it’s coming from. Generally Chai if i’m at the bookstore or one of those overpriced rhymes with Barbucks kind of places…..but when I was in Italy, they make coffee like nobody’s business. Their Cafe Americana was the best coffee ever. But until the Boboli pizza guy marries me and takes me away to the land of fabulous coffee, I like DD w/ cream and sugar in the winter, served hot (like my men), or in the summer, their dark roast iced coffee rocks my world.

April 6, 2011 at 6:44 amAs a Kiwi, I’m a Flat White kind of person. We invented it, you know, and I’m told Another Seattle Coffee Chain now offers it. It’s like a short latte, or a capuccino with less froth, more of the brown stuff. It’s good! But not as good as a $100 Amazon voucher.

April 6, 2011 at 3:38 pmCoffee, how I love thee! When I started drinking coffee, on my mother’s advice, I always drank it black. Coffee drinking never really grew as a habit…until I tried it with sweetner (must be Splenda!) and cream. Eeeek…now it’s an obsession.

April 6, 2011 at 4:18 pmI take my coffee only when it tastes like candy. My current favorite at Starbucks is a tall nonfat no whip toffee nut white mocha. Delicious. If I MUST drink regular coffee, I add so much milk and sugar I can feel the cavities coming in.

April 7, 2011 at 12:10 pmI enjoy REAL coffee, and will NEVER, EVER, drink any decaffeinated coffee. Once it is poured FRESH from the coffeepot, I add an ice cube or two to the cup so that I can drink the first cup (for the caffeine so I can wake up and face my day), and then pour another SECOND cup to drink leisurely while reading the morning paper. Black coffee only, no cream, sugar or anything else but the first ice cube.

April 17, 2011 at 4:25 pmI would def go with a level 1 because I am not a big coffee drinker but when I do drink it I like it to taste more like the flavoring/sugar/creamer/whatever than the coffee! 😀
