Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Jane’s Addiction, Been Caught Stealing.
don’t be fooled by the delayed beginning and turn it up like Bossy did
Lord how Bossy loves this smokin’ song off of Jane’s Addiction’s 1990 record, Ritual de lo Habitual, which Bossy and her baby son used to dance to until they were senseless.
First of all, in order of appearance, the two-chord intro is saturated with wit.
Second of all, Bossy has always enjoyed a well-placed dog bark — we really don’t hear that enough in pop music.
Third of all, Bossy thinks you owe it to the tune to strap on some headphones so you can listen to the layering of all the guitar parts. Put ’em all together, they’re cookin’.
Fourth of all, what a great little solo between the first and second verses — what is that? A guitar dressed as a harmonica?
Fifth of all, bridge lyrics don’t get much better than “Leh deh deh dah dah dah dah dahdah dah dah dah dahdah dah.”
Sixth of all, it’s always a good move toward the end of a song to drop everything but the rhythm section away.
Seventh and finally, look ma! It’s not a love song!
I’ve been caught stealing
Once when I was 5
I enjoy stealing
It’s just as simple as that
Well, it’s just a simple fact
When I want something
I don’t want to pay for it
I walk right through the door
Walk right through the door
Hey all right! If I get by, it’s mine
Mine all mine
My girl, she’s one too
She’ll go and get a skirt
Stick it in her shirt
She grabbed a razor for me
And she did it just like that
When she wants something
She don’t want to pay for it
She walk right through the door
Walk right through the door
Hey all right! If I get by, it’s mine
Mine all mine
We sat around the pile
We sat and laughed
We sat and laughed and
Waved it into the air
And we did it just like that
When we want something
We don’t want to pay for it
We walk right through the door
Walk right through the door
Hey, all right! If I get by, it’s mine
Mine

October 9, 2009 at 2:01 pmum…not so much my geneation…and while it was playing at a jillion decibels…the phone rang and I couldn’t find the mute horn looking icon to stop the music. It was hilarious watching me closing the laptop and hovering over it to muffle the sound. At least it wasn’t my mil.

The other would be sort of on the level of genealogy or something equally weird. Maybe I won’t click that remember me box this time. *sigh*

October 10, 2009 at 5:02 pmWoooo. Years ago I had an alarm clock/CD player and RDLH was what I woke up to for at least a year. The neighbors on the other side of the cheap-ass constructed apartment wall had to wake up to it too. We talked about it once, it was cool. They were into JA also.

October 13, 2009 at 11:16 amHey Bossy, I’ve always loved that song too but never quite focused on the (correct) lyrics…just sort of made up my own and screamed ’em out! I now have a whole new appreciation!!!
