My nearly 16 year old son still has his blankie. It’s a quilt that he was brought home from the hospital in. He’s attempted to give it up twice so far. I think the longest he went without her was about 4 days. =D
My son went off to college his freshman year, leaving his monkey, Mendel, at home for safe-keeping. [Your “grey coat” column had me in tears and I headed into son’s room to sniff and hug Mendel.] Sophomore year, with new confidence, Mendel moved to New York, where he is having a great time. I miss Mendel.
I second the call for Bossy’s Daughter to be a second far-flung correspondent!
Take care and enjoy the temporarily empty nest, p.j.
My husband still has his blankie. He does not sleep with it every night anymore but you better believe it makes an appearance when he is sick. BTW – I have a laptop case in that VB pattern. : )
my BFF still has the teddy bear she got when she was months old (we’re in our, gasp, late-thirties). Baby Bear is better traveled than I am b/c she takes him everywhere.
My childhood teddy was bear-napped in college. so sad! I miss Moo-Moo

My 11 year old son has “Elephant” who was given to him by my mom when he was born. I adore looking over to see him sitting on the couch, reading one of the “Harry Potter,” “Percy Jackson” or “Guardians of Gahoole” books or something with Elephant tucked on his lap. It is so natural for him.
Elephant goes on sleep overs and, occcasionally, makes a clansdine trip to school in the backpack on a tough day. He too is loved flat (I have hd to restuff him) but I don’t think he is going anywhere soon.
Your daughter and mine must have been separated at birth (except of course I was there and know only one came out). She is also almost 14 with her “Pooh”. It’s nice they can still sometimes be a little girl in their transition to womanhood!
