This austere breakfast brought to you by Bossy’s finicky daughter.
Sister Mercy, it’s always the same, at least for now: she likes her hard-boiled egg blistering cold, and she likes her hot chocolate hot, but not too much chocolate syrup, and don’t even think about being too shy with the chocolate syrup, and the hard-boiled egg must be cut, but not like that!
Bossy’s daughter isn’t the most inspired eater in the world, which makes her diametrically opposed to Bossy, whose own food dislike list is limited to only two items: chitlins and kishkes, both of which feature things stuffed with other things and Christ on the cross you don’t want to know.
Bossy’s daughter is especially picky in the morning, because she’s not hungry and it’s dark and she doesn’t like that kind of cereal and that bagel has poppy seeds on it and the milk tastes funny.
In her own childhood, Bossy and her brother knew how to give a loaf of bread hell — and the more the white flour gluten and high fructose corn syrup the better. Bossy and her brother would pass in and out of toast stages. Sometimes it was butter and jelly, but mostly it was butter and cinnamon sugar, dunked in hot chocolate prepared with this vintage powdered chocolate mix.
These days Bossy’s own morning breakfast routine swings wildly from unadorned steel-cut oatmeal to runny eggs and greasy bacon. Bossy can sum it up this way:
Breakfast consists of whatever was not already eaten by someone.
Which is what today’s Ten-Word Challenge is all about. In exactly ten words, can you tell Bossy about your morning breakfast routine, either your own breakfast or something you routinely prepare for someone else?
And don’t forget to check back later today for the most interesting breakfast routines on the Web.
And check out Bossy’s latest distraction in her left column, Ear Worm! This will feature songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Come on over for something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Bossy thanks her very talented and beautiful design team for all of their help creating the new feature.
