I need help picking out totally new eyeglasses – what shape should i get for my completely unconventional head?

Dear Amy B,
Researching this question has been very, um, eye opening. I thought the trend was toward larger frames again, but the more popular chain stores only feature variations on little and rectangular. That, and rectangular and little. These frames instantly turn executives into Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner. I’d like to steer you away from this android replicant look. According to the VisionWeb site, there are five main face shapes: oval, round, rectangular, square, and triangular. I won’t take it personally that they failed to include my face shape: trapezoidal. From what I can glean, sometimes you definitely want to accentuate your face shape and sometimes you want to conceal it. Other times you need to emphasize your eyebrows, downplay the size of your nose, obscure the ratio of forehead to chin, or punctuate the distance between your temples. It’s a fucking free-fall! But fear not – the Pearle Vision website features an “interactive frame selector” which allows you to click through a variety of frames and see instantly how they’ll look on a face. Of course if the model used for the simulation is any indication, you must look exactly like Monica Lewinsky.
