Poised to become baseball’s National League MVP, 26-year-old Ryan Howard hits more homers than Marge Simpson. Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 5th round in 2001, Howard plowed his way through their Farm System until last year, when first baseman Jim Thome strained his elbow and vacated his spot for the left-handed rookie.
Leading the Major League with 54 home runs this season, Howard needs only seven more to tie Roger Maris’ record set in 1961. And like Maris, 6’4” 250 pound Howard throws his weight around without the aid of Androstenedione.
