When Bossy’s daughter first gets a script, her first step in memorization is highlighting all of her lines. In the upcoming local theater company’s spring production of The Wizard of Oz, Bossy’s daughter is Dorothy, and has 303 lines total.
That’s the most she’s ever had to deal with…

March 18, 2010 at 9:39 amThat was always my first step too, back when I had time and energy for things like extracurricular activities, especially ones that happen at night after 7pm. I will probably have to do some stretches and take some naps for when Bossy is in the Boston area on her tour.

March 18, 2010 at 11:18 amHa! I had over 365 in high school when I was rehearsing for THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. That was probably the last time I counted.
(Of course there was a teacher strike and the play got cancelled. Still….)

March 18, 2010 at 2:47 pmYep, that is always my first move too. Then, for any scenes I have trouble with, I always write out my lines. Something about writing the words commits it to memory for me. And right about now, you’re daughter is thinking, “write?” why not “type?” Oy.

March 18, 2010 at 4:29 pmWhat fun !!! Do you get to help her with her lines? I can’t believe I used to memorize lines in High School…. or orders when I waitressed later on. I, too, have to search to remember what was for breakfast now.
