It was a morning that began like any other for Bossy: up with the roosters, milking the cows.
It was this past Friday, and Bossy was driving from St. Louis to Madison on a cold blustery day which smelled like the rain that never quite fell.
When suddenly, what should appear out of the cornfield but Oz dressed as a hotel!
It was the Quality Inn & Suites Madison, and because Bossy had spent the week prior driving a series of 10-hour days lightly fried and dipped in ranch dressing, Bossy was offered the opportunity to stay the night in Madison for free because she knows a girl who knows a guy but anyway, within minutes Bossy was directed down a hushed hallway to her room:
Perhaps this would be a good time for Bossy to tell her council that when she first threw herself at the forgiving feet of the front desk, the cheerful clerk was all, Oh yes, we’ve been waiting for you — you’re our very important guest for the evening! Which was particularly generous of the clerk considering Bossy the very important guest was dressed as a bagman in a hobo costume:
But Bossy had no time to consider issues such as Lord Woman are you ever going to wear grown-up shoes, because Bossy was too busy trying to solve more important global issues, such as: Should she watch TV in her suite’s living room?
Or should Bossy watch TV in her suite’s bedroom?
Or should Bossy watch TV in her suite’s complimentary snack plate?
It may warm your heart to know that in the end Bossy, who feels a responsibility to post road trip updates for her esteemed council, chose to settle in her bedroom in order to get some work done:
Bossy can sum up her experience with the Quality Inn & Suites Madison this way: Exercise room, pool, free cocktail — backseat to complimentary sausage breakfast!
Which is what today’s Ten-Word Challenge is all about. In exactly ten words, can you tell Bossy what you would look forward to doing the most if you were to check into a hotel this minute?
Be sure to check back later today for the hoteliest comments on the web.
And while still on the subject of Madison and its graciousness, here are a few photos of Bossy’s esteemed Madison council, such as Maggie, Ann, Katie, Becky, and Krista, with a special shout out to Bossy’s neighbor Steve’s sister Jenni! Hi Steve!

Which is funny, the last hotels me and the hubby did was go to Priceline the day we want to leave, and get a dirt cheap 5 star Scottsdale resort, bid the price of a Super 8 and go for the weekend. I still always look at the town info even if I live down the street!
