I thought I had something funny to say, but realized not so much.
So I’ll just asked if you’ve tried that oral drug that is adverstised by using some kind of rabid weasel/tasmanian devil character digging in the toe bed?
Oh my! I am about to deal with this issue for my boyfriend. His toenails have been BLACK and like “claws” since I met him. He won’t show his feet, even at the beach. They are soo gross. He’s off to the Dr. and probably a podiatrist. UGLY! He makes jokes that he could swoop down and get a fish out of the ocean. I hope someome has some good advise!!
So, so thankful I have never had to deal with this because everyone talks about how bad it is. Our receptionist got it from a pedicure and she told me it took her almost TWO YEARS to get rid of it.
No joke. Tea tree oil. If you don’t know about it, it’s a natural antiseptic and antifungal. I can tell you our family has used it successfully on foot fungus (I have a teenage boy…this is a regular occurrence round here), skin fungus, eczema, and to repel and remove ticks. If you don’t believe ME (slap yourself, right now), here’s one article I found for you. http://ezinearticles.com/?Tea-Tree-Oil-Nail-Fungus&id=353851
**To remove ticks from cats and dogs, the best form of tea tree oil is in Desert Essence “Thoroughly Clean Face Wash” with organic tea tree oil and Awapuhi. The ticks practically fall off after a minute or two.
I started to get a fungus under my big toe nail and a co-worker told me to use Vicks and it went away. BTW she has used it on her DH’s terminal nails and it worked.
Tea Tree oil and Vicks Vapo Rub. Also had success with geranium oil. However, You gotta be very diligent and try to keep your feet in flops as much as possible. The black will eventually grow out if you keep treating the infection with the above.
I forgot to add (and Pyllis touched on it) to keep your feet dry, uncovered by wearing flip flops or going barefoot and continually cutting the nails short…I was also told to file the top of the nail so the Vicks or Tea Tree oil can be absorbed.
My husband is plagued with this and he tried all the natural remedies–tea tree oil, oregano, garlic, black tea, bhah–the only thing that anihilated it was this anti-fungle horse pill he was prescribed by his doctor…you have to take it the drug for three to six months. But his toes are beautiful now. This is one tenacious fungus.
That’s totally true, homegirl. I live with the heartbreak of toenail fungus and once asked a dermatologist about getting rid of it. She said it would involve a 6-month rotation of pills that would require me to come in every couple weeks to make sure my liver wasn’t being damaged by the medication.
So, turns out that living with toenail fungus isn’t really all that big a deal, after all.
The trick to using tea tree oil (I can’t speak for Vicks or Geranium Oil…they may work too) is that you have to be vigilant about it, and yes, keep your feet in the open air as much as possible. You work at home, shouldn’t be a problem! 🙂 You need a good pure tea tree oil, and I would buy a soap as well. Yes, file your toenails so the oil can absorb, soak your feet in a tea tree oil bath a few times, wash them with the soap when you shower, and clean out your tub with Dr. Bronner’s soap with tea tree oil (to remove any fungus from the shower floor).
Then make it a habit to put some pure oil on with a Q-tip in the morning and at night. Do this for a while after it seems to have gone away.
Or, you can take the horse pill. Who needs a liver?
My ex husband had the dreaded T.F. for years (no, not the reason I divorced him). Then he got some odd dry rash in rings on his body which was unrelated (now you are understanding why we are divorced!) that he went to see the doctor for. Doc gave him some hyper-expensive one-dose oral antifungal medicine and they were both gone in less than a week.
Apparently his liver could have been damaged from it as well (okay, either that or the boozing, you pick). My point was that you can get rid of it!
File the top of the toenails with an emery board to air out the fungus. Think fresh air like being in a field of daisies! And do the Tea Tree oil – it works.
I really can’t say if it will work for the really-must-be-something-special-kind-of-guy that sassykim is working on but we’ll keep her in our prayers.
I have heard of Vicks…I tried it once. I cleared up the sinuses really good. I’ve never used tree oil. I wouldn’t even know where to get it. I guess this means I need to buckle down and just do it.
Hmmmm…do any of these remove age spots? Nothing better than killing two birds with one stone.
My husband and I both used the pill method (liver be damned) and can now proudly wear sandals after years of avoiding them.
I’d also add to the advice of others – yes to the flip flops as often as possible, but also, wear socks when you have to wear sneakers or other closed in shoes. Keep the tootsies dry!
I do not have this particular affliction. But I do have wicked bunyons on both feet that make it impossible for me to wear most styles of (SOB!) cute shoes.
Okay, I realize I’m a little late to this party but I have to agree with the commenter who said that Oregano Oil will get rid of the fungus. It will! I promise.
Damn!

Daisies are pretty.
There is no toe nail fungi among I.

I did know that. My dad had (and still has) that problem.

Bossy,

Vicks vapor rub….just plain old Vicks.
I started to get a fungus under my big toe nail and a co-worker told me to use Vicks and it went away. BTW she has used it on her DH’s terminal nails and it worked.
Well, actually… I think when you die, the fungus wins.
Is this a case of, “Don’t ask me how I know?”

And if all else fails, cocktails! Then you won’t give a crap.

Vick Vapor Rub. EVERYNIGHT with socks for 6 months and it WILL be gone. Praise the lord…it will be gone.

Ew.
That is all.
Thanks for brightening my day.
I USED TO LOVE MY FEET.
I no longer love my feet.

Other than tea tree oil, I’d say see a specialist. Maybe the specialist can make you feel better about accepting your fungus.
Um, also? Nuclear waste.
I have heard of Vicks…I tried it once. I cleared up the sinuses really good. I’ve never used tree oil. I wouldn’t even know where to get it. I guess this means I need to buckle down and just do it.

Oh my feet suck ass. No they suck fungus.
I’ve tried so many prescriptions & OTC crap.
Tea Tree Oil, Vicks Vapor Rub…my husband finally said he’d rather I have fungus then come to bed smelling like that!
Damn. I’m basically screwed, then.
There’s a fungus among us!
I do not have this particular affliction. But I do have wicked bunyons on both feet that make it impossible for me to wear most styles of (SOB!) cute shoes.
It took me $400 dollars worth of medicine to get rid of it… in AFRICA. FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!
This is when you take that damn medicine and can’t enjoy an adult beverage..ever..Never mind, sandals are HIGHLY overratred..Cheers!
vicks vapor rub.. for a llllooonnnggg time. It’s not gone until the whole nail has grown out. I’ve also heard white vinegar works but

Hydrogen Peroxide soak followed by daily doses of patchouli oil.
And catch it quickly, for goodness sake! Sheesh…

Does anyone know how long the tea tree oil/vicks method take if applied twice daily?
