Well it’s not a Space Station, it’s Columbia University. And it’s not the Earth’s Chairman of the National Council of Astronautics, it’s Bossy’s son—and his best friend in a different dorm room 136 miles away.
And the daughter in question belongs to Bossy, and she is soaking up the i-Chat technology because it allows her to tour various dorm rooms while sitting in a swivel chair chewing gum.

September 8, 2008 at 8:52 amGah! That is w-a-y too high tech for me, although VCRs are as well so that doesn’t speak highly of me.

September 8, 2008 at 9:05 amichat is the bomb. My mom gets to “see” her grandbabies, and I get her off my back.

September 8, 2008 at 9:27 amTechnology is a beautiful thing….as long as they don’t figure out how to use i-CHAT to “chat in an adult way” with girls!!

September 8, 2008 at 9:31 amEvery day I am re-amazed at the beauty of (some of) the technology we create — it can be so nurturing of close bonds of unity and love. Hooray for i-Chat!!!

September 8, 2008 at 9:34 amThat is so awesome. I’ve been trying to get our Iowa family to use it to talk to the kids!

September 8, 2008 at 9:36 amCrap, just bought a new HP now once again have Apple envy after being talked out of one. Why do I listen to the sales people at Best Buy, WHY? Argh!
Very cute that you all can see eachother, must make you feel at least a little better!

September 8, 2008 at 9:43 amI love technology sometimes. We use video chat to talk with our 19 month old son who is still in Guatemala and is coming home next week (!!!). Thanks to technology we’ve been able to visit with him from central New York every weekend and he and his 3 year old sister have had musical jam sessions on their harmonicas 2100 miles and two time zones apart.

September 8, 2008 at 10:04 amVery cool. I don’t know if I’m dumb or cursed or both, but I just haven’t had much luck with ichat or any other web camera. Someone on one side of the transmission always has a firewall in place they can’t disable.
Argh! One of these days…

September 8, 2008 at 10:32 amI’m thinking Bossy’s Son and Bossy’s Daughter are missing each other a little bit.
My mother-in-law told me about the good old days when her father dropped her off on the sidewalk in front of Univ of Georgia and said “See you at Christmas”
David says
September 8, 2008 at 11:10 amI hope, for everyone’s sake, that you can’t just virtually “pop in” unannounced on Bossy’s son in his dorm room. That could lead to some awkward moments.
junebug says
September 8, 2008 at 11:10 amThat is the most fantastic bit of technology. My children use it too. I have used Skype for long distance calling and you can see each other too. But we have iChat on our computer too.

September 8, 2008 at 11:25 amThat looks like so much fun! I bet that Bossy’s Daughter is missing her brother…big time.

September 8, 2008 at 6:20 pmOh yeah, this reminds me of when I was in college. We had one rotary telephone to share among a suite of 15 girls. Computers? Those were those monstrosities that the Engineering School Geeks used to run Fortran.
Damn I’m old.

September 8, 2008 at 9:04 pmahhh, don’t you just love a technology that promotes agoraphobia? not that i am being flippant about such a paralyzing disorder, but really, between peapod and videochat you can really feel like you are not missing a thing.

September 9, 2008 at 12:04 amI think it is cool the way it shows all the pictures on the screen so you can see if you look really stupid or something while talking with you brother and his friend away at college. Plus it shows how smart they all are to be able to do that….ichat.
That is what it is called, right? We don’t have anyone who lives far away right now, but when my cousin moves back to Alaska sometime in the future that would be fun. I could show her how hot and sweaty I am and she could throw a glass of water into the air and we could watch it evaporate. Yes…I will have one by the time my cousin moves back to Alaska.

September 9, 2008 at 3:19 amMy youngest child is in South Korea teaching English for a year. She got Skype and so did my other child and her father. She put it on my computer before she left but it’s old and cranky so I deleted it. Sooooo, she got a local phone number (same area code as me) through Skype and now I can call her toll free. My phone calls her computer. If she is not on the computer it gets forwarded to her cell phone. Now when I call it’s like I’m calling a neighbor. I’m out of the dark ages and into the 21st century. Woo Hoo!
