How wonderful! My MIL calls my two daughters (ages 8 and 5) her “best girl friends,” and she has ever since they were tiny babies. “How’s my girl friend?” she always asks them. Just imagine how it’s going to be when they are teenagers! So neat.
My mom’s relationship with them is not so much “girl friend,” but definitely Grandma in the very, very best sense of the word.
I too was very close with my Gram and was lucky enough to have her in my life until I was 27. 11 years later I still miss her terribly. My daughter isn’t going to be that lucky because I had her so late in life. I do wish I hadn’t waited to have a child.
Is she the first granddaughter for your mom? There’s something very unique and special about a grandmother’s relationship with her first granddaughter. It was for me, and that’s what they told me in family therapy school.

November 21, 2008 at 12:50 pmAs someone who had a crap relationship with her grandma, I’m so very glad to see this kind of grandmother-granddaughter relationship exists.
May it exist for Bossy’s Daughter & Bossy’s Daughter’s Grandma forever.
