Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which will feature songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
The Bird and the Bee, Polite Dance Song.
Bossy and her friend Martha fell head first for this smart, cute-as-buttons duo The Bird and the Bee with songs from their 2007 release such as Again & Again, Fucking Boyfriend, and La La La.
But recently one of Bossy’s other friends had the chance to catch the band at SXSW, and he couldn’t say enough about their dynamic live show — and before Bossy knew it, she had lost an afternoon and part of the next day to stalking vocalist Inara George on YouTube.
This song, on their latest CD Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future, jumped out at Bossy. It’s almost cartoon factory-like in the production and assembly of sounds, but then out of the blue, the chorus’ chord progression throws Bossy to her knees. In a good Maybe I’m Amazed way, of course.
Plus, Bossy is always a sucker for a well-placed beep-beep, and in this case it happens toward the end of the song. Decent hand-clapping never killed anyone either.
My favorite album of the year so far. It’s quite excellent. And Polite Dance Song is catchy AND hilarious. Have you seen the video?

I SO love The Bird and The Bee. I just recently discovered Handsome Boy Modeling School. Am I the last one?
Yes, you probably are the last to discover HBMS since they broke up in ’06. Sorry.
Man that’s catchy ! Just checked out the vid. I’d probably laugh more if it didn’t look hauntingly familiar. My dancing is so much better in my head than it looks in the mirror. Thanks for the tune.
i have listened to this song repeatedly for the last year, and i never tire of it. get out of my head, woman! how can our musical tastes possibly match up this exactly??
Fabulous! 1 out of 1 scientist thinks this is a great new feature.
Love it. The Bird and The Bee make me smile! Fucking Boyfriend was definitely on repeat for a while a year or so ago. And I am finding hand claps in lots of my favorites lately. Hand claps make me smile too!
Oh, and combining the hand claps with the foot stomps on “My Love”… well, my kids think I’m crazy when I’m supposed to be making dinner, but am stomping around the kitchen and clapping instead! Check out Inara George and Van Dyke Parks: An Invitiation. Totally different from TBATB, but awesome all the same!
I have one for Bossy to try if she hasn’t already. Utada.
Coastal Nest thinks you might like to try a little ~Pink Martini~ if you havent yet….I believe you will love the perfect randomness of this Portland Oregon based group..
let me know..K?
