It’s spring in Casper Wyoming, although it’s damn near impossible to tell since rattling winds blow across the wide expanse of prairie thick with sage.
Walt has a buddy at work, Ray. And Ray and his wife Laverne have a ranch, a sweet setup not too far from town. Today Walt and Bert are hanging around one of Ray’s spit dust corrals, but in a few hours they’ll go back to Ray’s house where Laverne will tickle Walt with her accent. “Yew want some What Feesh,” she’ll ask. White fish. Never ceases to get a rise out of Walt, who later that night will imitate Laverne all the way home for Bert.

April 6, 2009 at 10:26 amI have to wonder….in 1 billion years from now, will someone look at our photos and go “ohmygosh she is beautiful and classic and just SO fresh in that photo! and look at him! He’s young and vital and classic and they could’ve been film stars!”
Do you? Do you? Will people say that about US???
No. Because in a billion years there won’t be film stars.

April 7, 2009 at 11:26 amSo gorgeous, both of them. I’m so glad they’re back. It could have something to do that I live right down the highway (well, two hours down the highway) from Casper and love hearing histories and ties to this wild and weird state.

April 7, 2009 at 1:17 pmAs thrilled as I am to see the return of the story, I am even happier for your children; this is a gift. Photos are wonderful, but little stories like this are rare and give so much texture to those lives. Yay, it’s back! : )
