For the last eternity, Bossy has been test driving a new mobile email device called Peek, and when Bossy says she has been test driving it, she really means her daughter:
Here’s the thing: Bossy’s daughter has been begging for a cell phone since 1863, and she’s all, “What if there’s an emergency and my two-hundred sixth-grade friends standing inches away holding cell phones aren’t able to lend me theirs?”
But Bossy is having none of it, because that’s why gah invented two-hundred sixth-grade friends with parents wealthier and nicer than Bossy.
Then along came Peek.
Bossy was intrigued with the idea of the Peek, since it allows you to send and receive emails wherever you happen to be, and this suits Bossy perfectly due to a little thing she likes to call Phone Phobia, where likes to call equals she most definitely does not like to call.
So Bossy used her Peek for a while, but she discovered one big issue with a mobile device: you sort of need to be mobile. And since Bossy mostly works at home, the thing was collecting some dust.
So Bossy handed the Peek off to her daughter one morning and told her to email if she found herself staying late after school. And Bossy’s daughter has been using it ever since.
Bossy likes this alternative to the cell phone, especially for kids, because it allows connectivity without the distraction of cell phone rings and cell phone cameras and cell phones. And depending on your cell phone plan, the Peek is usually less expensive and offers unlimited emailing and instant texting.
Peek even offers a website to help you calculate the savings compared to other email carriers.
Which is why Bossy was happy when her new friend Peek offered to give one Bossy reader a Peek device and a three-month paid trial. Just leave a comment below, one per person please.
Bossy will announce the winner tomorrow. And good luck!

April 13, 2009 at 9:34 amI have to say…I hate the phone. I never used to…but then again, I used to peg my pants and tease my hair, so obviously, things change…I am annoyed when the phone rings. I love the text…unless your texts are one word…then, bite me man, if I am going to open the text, make it worth my time…
Why did I feel like sharing this?
Count me in for the free…if it’s free…it’s for me!

April 13, 2009 at 9:42 amI cringe when I get a text because I know it will take me YEARS longer to return it than if the person had just called. I DEFINITELY need a keypad thingy to help with my issues. This looks uber-cool.

April 13, 2009 at 9:46 amI have many phobias, including the phone, but I carry my husband’s old cell around with me just in case I have an emergency. An emergency that does not require me to know how to send or receive a text message or retrieve a voice mail because I don’t know how to do that. The Peek sounds like an old-school pager and pager=awesome!

April 13, 2009 at 12:08 pmThis may make me feel a little better about seriously considering a cell phone for my NINE YEAR OLD! I hate everything about my nine year old having a cell phone, but let’s face it, as a single mom I need her to be my eyes and ears for the younger ones. And to really face it, I would forget most school functions without her reminding me. She really is the responsible one of the bunch. I might have to check out the Peek. This may be a happy medium. And if I could win one? Niiiice.

April 13, 2009 at 2:23 pmI normally just lurk…but this peek at a Peek has peaked my interest (how many more times can I use peek in a sentence?!)
My phone is no longer the newest tech gadget…and since I can never get a signal, I rarely use it to call anyone – just call me the texting queen…in search of a new gadget! 🙂
Blackbeards Wyfe says
April 13, 2009 at 2:30 pmBonus boy would love this!!! We have mixed feelings about the cell for him. I remember BEGGING my parents for a phone in my room. They said no. I survived having to talk on the family phone in the family room. They were SOOOOO MEAN!!!
MeL says
April 13, 2009 at 2:31 pmThis intrigues me on multi-levels. First, I am finding phone phobia is much more common than I realized it. (I gots it, too…) and second, my so-called “smart” phone is apparently not smart enough to find my email, and therefore I now miss all the important messages because I am too busy wiping small behinds and battling the booby badger (my husband calls it “nursing the baby”, but that’s far too tame a description for the massacre upon my person). This Peek sounds like some goodness.

April 13, 2009 at 3:08 pmOh, yes, and I hope it comes with a charger to add to the l9, yes, 19 chargers that had to come with us on our family vacations – cell phones, ipods, digital cameras, dvd player, blah, blah, blah. 20 is such a round number. I hope it has a charger.

Jamie says
April 13, 2009 at 3:28 pmmy 11 year old daughter would “love me forever and like me for always” if i handed her one of those! i too, am against the pre-teen movement for cell phones, and as she lives far away with her step mom, being able to email with her more regularly would be nice for me as the mommy too!
Michele says
April 13, 2009 at 3:31 pmThis sounds very cool! Not sure that access to email anywhere is a good thing…might not ever get anything done!
Evelyn says
April 13, 2009 at 3:34 pmWhat a fantastic idea! Have never heard of Peek before, but it sounds like a possible viable alternative to the current cell phone dilemma we’re having with our 16-year-old son.

Lee of MWOB says
April 13, 2009 at 3:48 pmWell well well. This little Peek is quite interesting and I like the idea of the no phone thing too! But my kid is only six but she keeps asking when she’s going to be 16 because in her mind that’s when she can get an iPhone. If I win this Peek, I can give her that when she’s like 15. And that would be awesome for her. But how much dust will collect on that Peek if it sits around my house for like 9 years? Hmmmmm………
Andi says
April 13, 2009 at 3:50 pmI’d love to try it!

April 13, 2009 at 4:00 pmThis would change my life, but in a good way, since I have a phone that is totally advanced way beyond my ability to use the damned thing.
Leslie M. says

April 13, 2009 at 4:56 pmMy best pal called me from the Newark airport (en route to Rome, how lovely for her!) while I was at lunch. She called work so only got my husband. He suggested that she call my cell phone. She hates to talk on phones, already had the info she was wanting, so she declined. I wonder if she would have peek’d me instead.
Those Peek people sure know how to market. BTW, there’s a material that’s used in my line of work called PEEK. polyaryletheretheretherketone. Definitely not a “super thin and stylish device” as per your sort of Peek. Okay, I”m signed up now. Peek #202 please. Unless that’s not me.

April 13, 2009 at 9:00 pmI’d love a separate texter and emailer thingy. He Who Created Cell Phone Accounts at our house decreed “No texting.” (Because he didn’t want to have to deal with work-related text msgs.) Yeah, I’m getting my own account when this contract is up…unless I get peeked.

April 13, 2009 at 9:40 pmMy blackberry up and died today and I am not looking forward to the price of a new one. I only use my blackberry for the emaily goodness so the Peek sounds like a perfect solution! A peek, a simple phone used just for calling, think of the savings!
