For the last eternity, Bossy has been test driving a new mobile email device called Peek, and when Bossy says she has been test driving it, she really means her daughter:
Here’s the thing: Bossy’s daughter has been begging for a cell phone since 1863, and she’s all, “What if there’s an emergency and my two-hundred sixth-grade friends standing inches away holding cell phones aren’t able to lend me theirs?”
But Bossy is having none of it, because that’s why gah invented two-hundred sixth-grade friends with parents wealthier and nicer than Bossy.
Then along came Peek.
Bossy was intrigued with the idea of the Peek, since it allows you to send and receive emails wherever you happen to be, and this suits Bossy perfectly due to a little thing she likes to call Phone Phobia, where likes to call equals she most definitely does not like to call.
So Bossy used her Peek for a while, but she discovered one big issue with a mobile device: you sort of need to be mobile. And since Bossy mostly works at home, the thing was collecting some dust.
So Bossy handed the Peek off to her daughter one morning and told her to email if she found herself staying late after school. And Bossy’s daughter has been using it ever since.
Bossy likes this alternative to the cell phone, especially for kids, because it allows connectivity without the distraction of cell phone rings and cell phone cameras and cell phones. And depending on your cell phone plan, the Peek is usually less expensive and offers unlimited emailing and instant texting.
Peek even offers a website to help you calculate the savings compared to other email carriers.
Which is why Bossy was happy when her new friend Peek offered to give one Bossy reader a Peek device and a three-month paid trial. Just leave a comment below, one per person please.
Bossy will announce the winner tomorrow. And good luck!
Ooh, I need that thing, whatever it is!
I’ve never heard of Peek, and I obviously had NO IDEA what I’ve been missing! And, may I have some of those oyster crackers, please? Many thanks.
I’ve never heard of such thing but it looks really cool!!!
Count me in! Fabulous! Thanks, Bossy 🙂
This would be good for me….I cringe when the phone rings, because I do not like to talk on the phone unless I have to, then, get it finished and get off!!!
Something else to stuff in my purse. Sounds like a nice little thing to have. very useful.
I have to say…I hate the phone. I never used to…but then again, I used to peg my pants and tease my hair, so obviously, things change…I am annoyed when the phone rings. I love the text…unless your texts are one word…then, bite me man, if I am going to open the text, make it worth my time…
Why did I feel like sharing this?
Count me in for the free…if it’s free…it’s for me!
oh baby! i want one!
I cringe when I get a text because I know it will take me YEARS longer to return it than if the person had just called. I DEFINITELY need a keypad thingy to help with my issues. This looks uber-cool.
Wow, that looks like just what I need. I would love to be able to text my grandkids. They are so much smarter than me. So pick me, please. Thank you…
I have many phobias, including the phone, but I carry my husband’s old cell around with me just in case I have an emergency. An emergency that does not require me to know how to send or receive a text message or retrieve a voice mail because I don’t know how to do that. The Peek sounds like an old-school pager and pager=awesome!
Hey, Bossy! Have a great day. 🙂
Interesting . . .
Intriguing . . .
I’m stickin’ with my iPhone boyfriend, natch. But I can understand the uses for this cutie.
Oh Bossy…… a Peek would be perfect for my own preteen, phone deprived daughter!
Fingers are crossed!
Ugh. I’m lucky 13.
Sweet! How have I not heard of this, yet?
Oooh…pick me…or peek me!
because my ipod touch only gets service whent ehre is free wifi, this looks like a fun gadget.
So cool! I definitely would put that to good use : )
My doctors are trying to get me to stop talking to myself, but they didnt mention that emailing myself would be a problem. This unit may be healthy for me
So cool! I’m such an avid e-mailer.
What a great, little gadget!
My interest in the Peek is piqued!
Just a peek, man, Just a little Peek. So cool. I want one.
i LOVE this idea – it would be perfect for my daughter as well.
What a cool thing.
Never heard of it before, but way cool!
Looks awesome and a great way to “ease into” the cell phone for tweens….
I never heard of it, but it sounds neat.
Peek me! Peek me!
I am still “cell phone free”. But a Peek? I thik I could handle that:)
Wow, I want it! 🙂
Peek peek peek peek peek me, please!
Ohhhh, a new toy! This sounds like it would be perfect for when I am stuck on the train on my way home.
Huh. Never heard of it. But sounds interesting! I’m one of those that refuses to get a Crackberry type device – I like my simple cell thankyouverymuch. So this would be awesome.
Ooh – pick me! pick me! I am phone phobic and never carry my cell phone with me, much to my husband’s dismay. But a peek – I’d carry that with me all the time.
I too have a 6th grader who is in need of such a device. Please let my child have one too. Please oh please!
My 8th grader is in the technological dark ages. PLEASE can I have one?
I’ve never heard of Peek before but it sounds promising.
Ohhhhhh, shiny….I love gadgets…..I’d really love this one, and I promise I’d take wonderful care of it… 🙂
Umm…yes please.
This looks very cool!
please please please I NEED one!!! 🙂 So cute!!!!
I’m also not a phone talker. My cell phone battery’s been dead for 2 weeks, and I haven’t missed it. And, texting is weird and foreign to me. But, I’d be happy to try this.
Oh gosh, I’d LOVE this !!!
i’d use this! yay Bossy!
sounds kinda cool – I’d give it a whirl
I am EXACTLY the same way with my pre-teens and cell phones! All their friends’ parents pay, why should I!
Um. I sent 1,012 txt msg last month, and used 79 of my 700 minutes…this sounds like a way better deal!
p.s. I am now a kefir convert, Thanks Bossy! 🙂
sounds like fun!
OY YES, I’d give it a try!
I wanna try it!!!
Wow! Different buttons for different letters. Now there’s a good idea waiting to happen.
How great would it be to have a little Peek?
this would be perfect being that i am currently computerless and job hunting.. thanks bossy!
Would LOVE to get a peek of the peek! (my current cell phone is literally hanging together by tape and I am THIS close to chucking the whole cell phone thing all together–this would be a great alternative).
I have phone phobia too…and this would definitely help!
Interesting. I have been looking for a cell phone alternative.
ooooh, peek me Bossy!
My phone contract is just about up. Maybe a peek is just what I need! Thanks Bossy
I’ve never heard of this either. Looks pretty neat. I’d love to try it!!
This is my comment. : )
Oooh, I’d like to try a Peek. Bossy, you make me laugh each and every day.
Oh – that looks awesome!! I’d love to try it! You crack me up!
Did you count – how many text messages did daughter send in her first week on Peek?
Thanks for the concept, but I am happy with my Iphone (aaaaa)
Oo yeah, I hate to talk on my cell phone. I go mobile when DuckyBoy has to spend an hour with his friends at the playground after school! This way I can justify that time to Husband… and does it come with the oyster crackers too? Just kidding, I won’t be greedy. Just the Peek will be fine.
I’ve never even heard of a Peek, but it looks awesome. Count me in!
I’d like to take a peek at a Peek.
this is exactly what I need…..
I’d like to grab a peek at that!
I’m right there with Bossy on the ‘borrow your friends if it’s an emergency’.
I’m also with you on the Phone Phobia. 🙂
What a neat ‘lil gadget! I’m in the Uk so don’t know if it’s designed to work here [but I see no reason why not]
Yup, definately piqued [peeked] my interest.
Keep up the excelent blog Bossy ;O)
Ooh, I’ve never heard of a Peek but it sounds great! Thanks, Bossy!
ooh! I am often mobile and am right there with you on the phone phobia thing. Peek sounds perfect for me!
Never heard of it! But I, too, have a middle schooler who doesn’t have a cell. I’m a bad mom! And this would be neat for us to share…..
Hmm. Another electronic device to add to my phobia. I’m in!
If I had this I would never have to talk on the phone again!
Ha! “Take a Peek!” It’s like a pun or something. Funny.
Vuboq would prefer to receive some Peeps, since his Easter Bag from home was entirely devoid of all things candy-related. *sigh*
At least I got a new toothbrush and some Christmas napkins.
That lil device looks neat-o! Thanks for offering the give-away….you’re one cool cat! :O) Amanda
ooooooh me likey.
Kool! I’d try it.
I never knew this existed, but I bet I could use one!
Ooooh, a new shiny gadget???
I’m in.
Oooh la la!
Never heard of Peek! I am going to check it out, meanwhile, here’s my comment!
I want a peek! Sounds totally cool.
I love the part about the 200 sixth-graders!
hmmm, OK, I’ll try it.
Ooh, I’ve been wanting one of these. Pick me, pick me!
Peek a boo on steroids….interesting little gadget there.
am I the only one who has a Blackberry?
I’m a phone person, but just plain old-fashioned calling and texting–this looks like fun!
I’ll take a Peek…
I’m game. Put me in the drawing.
Is it wrong that I would like a peek AND a cell phone? Just cause.
A peek would be totally sweet.
I’ve never heard of the Peek–I’d love to check it out!
This may make me feel a little better about seriously considering a cell phone for my NINE YEAR OLD! I hate everything about my nine year old having a cell phone, but let’s face it, as a single mom I need her to be my eyes and ears for the younger ones. And to really face it, I would forget most school functions without her reminding me. She really is the responsible one of the bunch. I might have to check out the Peek. This may be a happy medium. And if I could win one? Niiiice.
I’d love to win!!! I’m random too!!
ooo i want one!!
What a great invention!
I hate getting used to a new device.
I’ll stick to my BlackJack II with all it’s bells and whistles. I email, text, call, take photos, use GPS and post comments on blogs.
sounds really cool — I’d like one
Me Thinks it would be WAY handy… I loathe the phone too.
That looks like a fun little gadget! I also suffer from phone phobia so that would suit me just fine! 🙂
Can we all just agree that it’s 2009, and an extra mobile phone for emergency use for your kid is $9 per month well spent? It’s the same as 2 Starbucks coffees.
I too have the Phone Phobia. Anything with such a cute name needs to be the girlfriend of my ipod touch.
Interesting concept, would love to give it a try!
Oh, I could really use that, since I’m the last person on Earth(besides Bossy’s daughter) to not have a cell phone!
I could sooooo use one of these. My son is the only kid at the school without a cell phone (or so I hear)
I happen to think text messaging is the coolest invention EVER.
Yes please!!
yea for peek and oyster crackers
I, too, have a cell phone phobia. Maybe a peek would help?
Did you say PEEP? i love peeps.
Oyster crackers look good! Interesting new device!
color me intrigued!
I’d love to take a peek!
Sounds intriguing. Me please!
Nifty!
I’m in. Thanks!
Peekaboo! I’d love a Peek. And it is cute.
Great Idea!!
Oh, I could definitely use one of these!
What a great find!
sign me up!!
Is that an optical illusion or are those oyster crackers HUGE! Yikes! Yes, throw me in the hat for the email thingy!
Looks cool! I am not a phone fan either and not sure why. Just happens to some of us, I guess?
10 year old son was just begging for a cell phone since all his baseball buddies get to call Mom when practice is over. Poor thing. I STAY everyday to support him and see what the coach says so we can work on it at home, but what a terrible Mom I am to not give him this needed object! Anywho, this sounds perfect and I will look into it. To win a FREE one would be great as I would also have to produce one for his twin sister! Fingers crossed! Love the blog. Makes me laugh!
Please, please, please!!!
sign me up bossy!!!
I NEED this. I must give it to my boyfriend. So he can stop calling me with requests to check his email when he is not at his desk.
I am a texting idiot, but this? With it’s full keyboard? I’d become a texting genius. Count me in!
Ds2 heads off to college so he could use this !
Thanks !
My daughter has also been begging for a cell phone but I like this idea so much more!
Well isnt that cool. This would be great!
I hope I win!!
Bossy, you’re the best! I love logging on every few days and reading your site. Please keep up the good work and thank you for many, many, many smiles.
I’ve never heard of a Peek, but would love to win one. My daughter thinks she needs a cell phone too, and she’s only 7!
I like free things 🙂
Looks cool, and helps with my “No WAY to I want to be in contact with other people ALL THE TIME” syndrome.
Peek-a-boo, I need one too.
Pick me. Please…
I had never of this but it sounds interesting!
sound like just what I need so my boss can’t keep track of me!
me seek peek.
I’d love to take a Peek! Heh.
Aaggh! How come “keep reading post” is back?
sounds great. I would love to have a Peek!
lae
I too have the phone phobia
So many biddies. No other dudes read Bossy?
Given that I ignore my Crackberry when it rings, and the camera has died (due to repeated contact with the pavement), and the only thing I use it for is email/texting, I could certainly use a new toy! Sign me up!
I’m not sure why I would want to be more connected than I am now but I certainly can see the benefit with the kids and the texting and such.
Isn’t is just like a contest to bring out all the lurkers (myself included).
I think this is an awesome idea and had never heard of it until now. So excited!
I would send this my kid immediately.
peek-a-licious
Yaaay! So I can be notified instantly whenever important work emails arrive in my inbox, regardless of where I am, or what I’m doing!
Oh wait…
Seriously, though, I should probably try something like this. Or get a clue and update my cell phone to one of those smart ones with all of the keys…
I normally just lurk…but this peek at a Peek has peaked my interest (how many more times can I use peek in a sentence?!)
My phone is no longer the newest tech gadget…and since I can never get a signal, I rarely use it to call anyone – just call me the texting queen…in search of a new gadget! 🙂
Bonus boy would love this!!! We have mixed feelings about the cell for him. I remember BEGGING my parents for a phone in my room. They said no. I survived having to talk on the family phone in the family room. They were SOOOOO MEAN!!!
This intrigues me on multi-levels. First, I am finding phone phobia is much more common than I realized it. (I gots it, too…) and second, my so-called “smart” phone is apparently not smart enough to find my email, and therefore I now miss all the important messages because I am too busy wiping small behinds and battling the booby badger (my husband calls it “nursing the baby”, but that’s far too tame a description for the massacre upon my person). This Peek sounds like some goodness.
Peek-a-boo!!!
wha??? I have a 15 month old. I am constantly playing the above or singing “Twinkle, twinkle….or reading “Good night Moon”.
I need this device to keep what little brain matter I have left.
Thanks, Bossy!!
Hell’s yes.
Very cool giveaway!
I would love to take a peek at the peek…lol
Bossy – picking #163 will bring you much luck for many years. seriously.
Woo woo, sign me up.
Count me in – this think looks interesting!
How cool! I HATE to call people, e-mail is much better!
That thing looks great! I wonder if it works internationally. I’ve been trying to figure out what to get for my trip to India this summer. Is this it?
Peek me! Peek me! 🙂
This would be PERFECT for my 10 year old who is starting junior high this fall (WTH). I have been thinking a lot about how I can keep in touch with him if need be. Awesome.
ooohh! i love stuff that is free. good for bossy for not giving bossy’s daughter a cell phone. next if will be 6 year olds with iphones.
This would be fabulous for my dad who is a computer-phobic. Please Please Please Bossy peek me!!!
Perfect for my own phone aversion. Count me in! Thanks, Bossy!
Oh, yes, and I hope it comes with a charger to add to the l9, yes, 19 chargers that had to come with us on our family vacations – cell phones, ipods, digital cameras, dvd player, blah, blah, blah. 20 is such a round number. I hope it has a charger.
I’m in! Supercool giveaway, Bossy!!
That is a very cool gadget! I’m not interested in winning it, so don’t include my name, but I just wanted to comment on it. Plus, oyster crackers? Yum!
Is it bad that I only comment on blogs when I might win something?
my 11 year old daughter would “love me forever and like me for always” if i handed her one of those! i too, am against the pre-teen movement for cell phones, and as she lives far away with her step mom, being able to email with her more regularly would be nice for me as the mommy too!
This sounds very cool! Not sure that access to email anywhere is a good thing…might not ever get anything done!
What a fantastic idea! Have never heard of Peek before, but it sounds like a possible viable alternative to the current cell phone dilemma we’re having with our 16-year-old son.
Evelyn
Well well well. This little Peek is quite interesting and I like the idea of the no phone thing too! But my kid is only six but she keeps asking when she’s going to be 16 because in her mind that’s when she can get an iPhone. If I win this Peek, I can give her that when she’s like 15. And that would be awesome for her. But how much dust will collect on that Peek if it sits around my house for like 9 years? Hmmmmm………
I’d love to try it!
What a cool idea! Love the fact that there’s no phone ringing but you’re still connected…
Peek-a-boo! Hope it’s my lucky day!
Pick me, pick me.
Oooh, I was just staring at this at Target yesterday for the exact same reasons as Bossy…”I’ll never have to TALK to people again!”
This would change my life, but in a good way, since I have a phone that is totally advanced way beyond my ability to use the damned thing.
The last thing I need is the ability to check my email wherever I am…. so of course I want it more than anything! I’ve never heard of the peek, sounds pretty awesome!
Ooh how cool is that?
I gots to get me one of those!!!!
Never heard of it…..intrigued……hate cell phone bills…..7 kids………need I say More?
I are on yur blog, commenting.
Please.
Is Bossy’s daughter eligible to win the Peek? Or if I win it, can I give it to Bossy’s daughter?
That’s so cool! Want!
Usually I feel real lucky and never win. Not feeling too great today, so I guess that Peek is mine!!
I never win but sign me up!!!
peace
#2
Texting without all the mess! NEAT!
That. Looks. Awesome!
I share your loathing of phone calls. This would be perfect for me! Sign me up!
I love it!!!
Hmmmm… Very interesting! I have an aging iTouch and would love to compare the Peek – though I’ll bet I’d have to fight my husband for it…
Oooh, I’ve never seen one of those before. Looks pretty cool. I think I would definitely love something like that.
My best pal called me from the Newark airport (en route to Rome, how lovely for her!) while I was at lunch. She called work so only got my husband. He suggested that she call my cell phone. She hates to talk on phones, already had the info she was wanting, so she declined. I wonder if she would have peek’d me instead.
Those Peek people sure know how to market. BTW, there’s a material that’s used in my line of work called PEEK. polyaryletheretheretherketone. Definitely not a “super thin and stylish device” as per your sort of Peek. Okay, I”m signed up now. Peek #202 please. Unless that’s not me.
I’ve never heard of it either….but I’m sure my son would enjoy it considering he stays with his father some weekends…sign me up!
Oooh, oooh! Sign me up!
I have an old, decrepit flip phone that makes me look all 2004. I’d love to be entered please.
Ok, but can you connect to Facecrack? I mean, Facebook?
never heard of peek~but i love you bossy and pick me! pick me! oh wait. are you doing that random generator thing? dang.
Well, this is my lucky day (if you choose to make it so)!
Don’t worry, Bossy, you are not the only mean mommy out there refusing to give cell phones to children.
This Peek device sounds exactly what I need!
My eleven year old thinks I am ridiculous for not letting him have a cell phone. (We don’t even get cell reception at our house!) I would love the Peek!
A Monday giveaway? Bossy is the best. I, too am a phone phobe. I’m all about the text or email. That Peek looks pretty cool, I’m afraid to hope . . .
My friend from graduate school knows the person who created the Peek! I knew about it the day it was released. Who better than AG to win?!!
Good stuff.
This is awesome! I’ll be looking into getting one even if I don’t win 🙂
I’d love to get a peek at a Peek! Pick me Bossy, pick me!
So cool! I only have a cheap cell phone that I can’t text on, so I need one of these!
looks handy!
Oh, pick me! Pick me!!
Peg wants a Peek! Thanks!!
Love it! This would be perfect to test drive with my 3 kids (or me!!). Thanks Bossy! Love your site.
How cool! Count me in 😉
ooooo, please pick me! my 11 yr old son would LOVE to have this to stay in contact with me! (not kidding, he would!)
Ooh! Count me in!
Oooh! That looks way too cool for school! Thanks peekers and Bossy!
Peek me. Ha ha.
never heard of this until today! Looks good!
Anita’s daughter, Maura, wants a Peek. She’s sure of that!
Thanks, Bossy. Much love!
I too suffer from phone phobia.
I, too, had never heard of ‘peek’. What a great idea! It’s ‘peeked’ my curiousity…
hugs
Do I NEED this? Well, no.. not at all. But I’d be more than willing to play for awhile!
I would love to peek at a Peek. I have never heard of such a thing before.
Oh, yeah~I’m totally game~!
dear BOSSY,
i hate the phone nearly as much as you do. where nearly as much as you do equals a hundred times more than you do. i am lobbying for an entirely phone free world. also lobbying for a spider free world. see what you can do about that, okay?
love,
kate
Who knew? I sure didn’t and I want it!
I don’t just want this, I NEED it.
Looks very cool, considering I dread talking on the phone. Thanks for the info. I wonder though, is it available in Canada? I better check.
I like it!
this would be perfect for my 8 year old, she has been using my cell to text anyone she can.
Peek a Boo!
I am obviously uncool and never heard of this either. It sounds really neat though. I think I may need since I also suffer from phone phobia. I HATE talking on the phone.
I’d love a separate texter and emailer thingy. He Who Created Cell Phone Accounts at our house decreed “No texting.” (Because he didn’t want to have to deal with work-related text msgs.) Yeah, I’m getting my own account when this contract is up…unless I get peeked.
Pick me, pick me!!!! That looks like so much fun!!
Hey, Bossy–
Very cool for work, since… really do you care? I’m trying to make a clever post, but since you pick at random, I’ll just be random.
I truly hate phones, and refuse to get one for my son, but when he’s at his dad’s house this would be the perfect thing for him. Please, Bossy!
I’m on my laptop 90% of the day. Please, please, help me fill that remaining 10% of time with technology. Thanks!
yay! thanks!
my 4th grader wants a cell phone too! way too early
Dear Gah,
Please give me another device besides a computer which only performs dial-up internet.
Dear Gah,
Hopefully it was clear above that I want a device that provides internect connectivity and not a device that does anything else.
Thank you.
Dear Gah,
What is internect?
I have an almost 9 year old who is d.e.s.p.e.r.a.t.e. for a cell phone / texter / whatever… We heart Bossy!
My blackberry up and died today and I am not looking forward to the price of a new one. I only use my blackberry for the emaily goodness so the Peek sounds like a perfect solution! A peek, a simple phone used just for calling, think of the savings!
i also do not like talking on the phone and would much rather email and text any day.
Ditto on the cell phones being plentiful and plenty annoying. Ugh, and to see how many 3rd graders have them! Yeesh, and to think of all we went though as kids!
oh what the heck. looks fun.
I don’t know what it is but I would just love one.
Bossy just enligtened me. I’ve never heard of such, but it looks cool.
Oooh, a new gadget! I want!
My 8 and 10 year old girls would kill for something like this…probably each other! How very cool!
just what i need! another electronic device i can’t live without! EXCELLENT!!
oooh, I want a mobile email device!
Is that a keyboard, with buttons that are really, you know, like buttons, not just images on a screen?
I want it.
I have a phone phobia, too. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one 🙂 Peek looks like something I could be fast friends with.
Ooo Peek me! Peek me!
I learn so much from you! First the ham seder, now the Peek! What’s next?
Oh for God’s sake, Bossy! Cant be bothered to read all 264 comments, but am assuming everyone wants one of these doggone things. I’d much rather hear a review of the rained-out Marianne Faithfull concert.
It’s cute and I like the name. I hope I win!
So glad I took a peek at your blog before heading off to B-E-D. Woot!
Interesting…hadn’t heard of this before. So it’s no calls, just texts and emails? Hmm. Intriguing concept!
Well, isn’t that interesting…
ok, I’ll play!
I want to Peek! Ooh, sounds dirty.
I am not technologically inclined, but this might change things. Hate the phone as well….my only worry is….are my fingers small enough to type on this thing?
Yes, please…but if I don’t win the Peek, may I have the olives?
Golly.

about 45 seconds.
Would be perfect for my parents!!!
Thx
jp
This reminds me of my first Blackberry waaaaay back in 2000. It was an email/web only device – no phone. My how the times change. Pretty cool little gadget!
I hadn’t ever heard of this. But I have a 15 year old begging for a phone all the time. So, count me in on the random numberizing.
Thanks 🙂
