Bossy recently came across a chart of common fruits and vegetables, where came across equals a friend emailed it to Bossy and then Bossy died.
Bossy died because this particular chart of common fruits and vegetables is organized by probability of pesticide contamination, and the chart recommends that certain high risk fruits and vegetables be purchased from an organic source, where organic source equals hello, Bossy is back up on a ladder this minute to pay for her organic fruit and vegetables.
Shall we begin?
In other news, the winner of Bossy’s Microsoft webcam giveaway is Steffanie, who will be using it to communicate with her grandson in Germany. Congratulations, Steffanie!

May 11, 2009 at 7:07 amwhere are blueberries on this list? I’ve read they are one of the worst “offenders” – not meant to add to the paranoia 😉

May 11, 2009 at 8:40 amYup. I buy only organic these days. And I still wash the heck out of ’em.

May 11, 2009 at 9:09 amSometimes I’m so glad I live in Slovakia, where nearly everything is organic. The downside is that everyone cheerily tells you not to look at cherries or plums while you eat them, on the not-so-off chance of discovering half a worm…

May 11, 2009 at 11:23 amBroccoli is my favorite vegetable. Seriously. I would eat it for dinner every night if I could.
I could care less about fruit, however.

May 11, 2009 at 11:42 amOh thank God, I’ve always hated celery (where celery = tasteless FILLER) and now I know why.

May 11, 2009 at 12:33 pmI started reading those charts when I was fighting cancer. Needless to say, I immediately stopped reading them.
Nothing I ate was on the good side!!!!

May 11, 2009 at 1:25 pmBossy in her Public Safety Awareness role — thanks!
My naturopath told me to get some fruit/veg-washing soap at the natural food store. It’s a mild, quite liquidy soap. For little things like strawb’s and blueberries, make a foamy bath and swirl them around in it. Was faithfully doing that and lately have sloughed off. Now I’ll re-up on it, for both organic and non-org stuff.
All of you should come to Washington state during July-August some time — the most incredible local peaches. A little dent on one side where the picker’s thumb slightly bruised the perfectly ripe fruit when it was picked the day before. yum.

May 11, 2009 at 1:25 pmCelery’s no loss for me either.

May 11, 2009 at 1:32 pmwell yea of course. Most of the stuff low on pesticides has a shell or layers you peel off before eating. except for asparagus..and that MAY have something you peel off I don’t know I’ve never eaten it..yuk.

May 11, 2009 at 2:08 pmI will now live on all of the broccoli and asparagus that have been shunted aside by Bossy’s readers. But please, get that eggplant the heck away from me.

May 11, 2009 at 2:44 pmDoes Bossy know about Community Supported Agriculture? They’re like happy communist farms… minus the daily offering of communism. What they *do* offer is a very reasonably -priced, large quantity of organic veggies on a regular basis. And we all know how Bossy likes to be regular. Check out localharvest.org to find a CSA near you.

I found 2 farms in my area that I will go chck out this weekend! Thanks for posting the local harvest link Pamela!

May 11, 2009 at 10:02 pmBossy is always looking out for us. Thanks Bossy!
I’ve been buying organic carrots with the tops and organic celery (cheaper than the conventional grown celery!) and its as if they’re a different species. The celerey is beyond the best, as are the carrots. I use a slender stick of carrot to spear my martini olive. Nutritious, delicious and I get dinner out of the way at the same time. It’s all about multi-tasking.

May 11, 2009 at 11:28 pmPreservatives, peaches, Krispy Kreme, kale, pesticides, peanuts, Hostess, broccoli, Banquet frozen dinners, grapes and gluten .. …we’re all pretty much doomed.
Where we equals me and doomed equals not eating Twinkies, Ho Hos and Little Debbies but eagerly awaiting Bossy’s trip to Virginia where she introduces Kevin Bacon to his new wife.

May 12, 2009 at 3:07 pmI cannot bite into anything with fur – so the peaches are no loss for me. I’ve had this list on my fridge for ages, and try to stick by it, but do you know how hard it is to find organic grapes?! And the one time a year I do manage to find them…Oy the spiders!!!

May 12, 2009 at 9:16 pmGeeesh! Nice to know what I’ll die of and to be aware of one of the reasons my kids will be complaining about me to their therapists as they stare at them with the third eye they’ll likely achieve with all the TOXINS I’m feeding them! Does it matter if you cut the veggies?
