Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Calexico, Guero Canelo.
Bossy fell hard for this band a handful of years ago after her friend Jimmy put a couple of their tunes on a compilation CD for Bossy — a CD Bossy took with her when she lived in central Mexico for over a month. Now Bossy can’t hear this song without thinking of spring and Jacaranda blossoms and the dusty, smokey smell of fried cornmeal.
I’ve been craving Spanish sounding music lately. it reminds me of hot summer days and nights in my grandmother’s kitchen.
I went to school in Cuernavaca at the language center way back in 1989. It was a good thing I wasn’t there longer than a couple of weeks, because I wasn’t quite right after I got home. I had started thinking in Spanish and had picked up some dreadful intestinal varmint. I was very ill after I returned home and was sort of delirious. I had the tv on to any station that was in Spanish.
I finally got ok. The music on your blog today is very nice.
Calexico fills me with the joy every time.
