Yesterday Bossy created a little chart of her friends and their random asparagus facts, and many readers expressed an interest in finding out which asparagus fact corresponded to which friend, where many readers equals maybe one person — and perhaps that wasn’t interest, maybe that was a yawn.
So! Back by popular demand! Bossy’s friend/asparagus game! This time Bossy is offering a prize to the reader who correctly matches all three Bossy friends to their asparagus fact!
If more than one person guesses correctly, Bossy will select a random winner.
The prize? Bossy would love to buy the winner a Microplane Zester Grater. Bossy realizes it’s not an X-Box or a camera or a printer or a pair of gah forbid Danskos — but Bossy thinks the Microplane will change your life nonetheless, and sister mercy one size fits all.
Who’s in? Good luck!
I’m in:
Wendy – Lost three pounds of water weight in one night
Eric – Traveled to Germany during Spargel
Martha – Growing asparagus for the first time
Thanks for the contest, Bossy.

Martha – Growing asparagus.
Wendy = Spargel.
Eric = new grower.
Martha = diuretic.
rockle = thinks asparagus is gross because of what it does to the smell of pee, which is not all that great to begin with.
Wendy – Lost three pounds
Eric – Traveled to Germany
Martha – Growing asparagus
Wendy – Lost three pounds
Eric – Traveled to Germany
Martha – Growing asparagus
Martha lost asparagus weight.
Eric is growing it in his garden.
Wendy went to Germany.
I think they’re listed in order because I imagine Bossy to be lazy like that. So…
Wendy=Germany
Eric=Garden
Martha=Water weight
Wendy= Germany
Eric= Growing
Martha= Weight Loss
Wendy lost weight (I like the alliteration)
Martha’s growing asparagus (because she’s Martha)
Eric went to Germany (being chauvinistic because I doubt Eric cares about three pounds, and most men don’t garden)
All of this asparagus talk is making my pee smell funny.
Wendy Weight
Eric Germany
Martha Garden
XOXO
I dunno who said what, and I already have a serious relationship with a microplane and am a one microplane woman…. but it must be said that Martha may shed water weight or groove in her garden, but it doesn’t take a trip to Germany to see that she has some rockin’ hair. That’s all I care about!
Fun!
Wendy = Lost 3 pounds
Eric = Traveled to Germany
Martha = Growing asparagus for the first time
Wendy is growing asparagus
Eric went to Germany
Martha knew about the diuretic
Little Miss Sunshine State detests asparagus and just wrote a two-part post with pictures of stunning German pastries. Coincidence? I think not.
–>I feel like I’m cheating but I really did think it was this match-up yesterday.
Wendy—Reminded Bossy that asparagus is diuretic
Eric—-traveled to Germany
Martha—Growing Asparagus

This is exactly what Grandma J thinks:
Wendy—Reminded Bossy that asparagus is diuretic
Eric—-traveled to Germany
Martha—Growing Asparagus
I think the photos match up with the descriptions…so Wendy travelled, Eric is growing asparagus, and Martha lost weight. It’s a long shot, but it would be tricky to do that. And I am putting my money (or Microplane, as it were) on tricky.
This reminds me of the scene in The Princess Bride where the two guys are trying to decide which cup of wine has the poison.
I think Bossy is being extra clever by putting the right fact next to the friend and everybody’s matched up correctly as is.
Wendy is growing asp. Eric traveled to Germany and Martha reminded you it was a diuretic. Hows that?
either your friends are completely transparent, or we are all living in the matrix; i too believe that martha is trying out a new crop, eric is the world traveler, and wendy experienced an unexpected cleanse in the night…
Wendy is growing asparagus
Eric went to Germany
Martha lost the water weight
PS # 30, Carson, “Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha… “
Yep, Wendy traveled to Germany, Eric is a first-time grower (of asparagus) and Martha is familiar with its water-retention benefits — or lack thereof.
OK, I’m going to be the ultra-original one here and say that Wendy lost the weight, Eric went to Germany and Martha’s garden is the source of all that serendipitous asparagus you’ve been coming by lately. I’d mix things up more but I really covet that microplane!
I think ERIC went to Germany during Spargal season
I think MARTHA lost the water weight
and WENDY is growing it in her garden
1.) Wendy lost the water weight.
2.) Eric went to Germany.
3.) Martha is growing a lovely asparagus garden.
Original, I know, but there’s only so much you can do with 3 choices.
I’m tired of everyone sending Eric to Germany. I’m gonna flip things around, for my own amusement because what do *I* know about what Bossy’s friends do?
I’m sending Martha to Germany. Have fun!
Eric is ecstatic about the weight loss.
Which leaves Wendy being asparagus-growing earth mother.
And Bossy that wasn’t a yawn; thanks for noting the question and doing the followup.
Thanks to the commenters who mentioned asparagus pee so I didn’t have to. I remember being shocked, shocked I tell you, when my very refined mother made an asparagus pee joke once.
Wendy equals diuretics, Eric travels to Germany and Martha is growing asparagus. I have no clue. I know nothing about these people but I have wanted one of those for a LONG time. I never run across them in the store. Guess if I don’t win here I can order it online. Thanks and have a wonderful day and pick ME
Martha mentioned the diuretics. Eric went to Germany for the white stuff, and Wendy is growing it in her garden.
Hmmm, guess I’d have to reread a few years worth of posts to be accurate, but to guess:
Eric: Germany
Wendy: three pounds
Martha (still love her hair): growing in garden
Dude, no clue. So here are my guesses!
Wendy = growing
Eric = Germany
Martha = water weight loss

Going to Germany for an asparagus festival? I’m tempted to say Martha but it’s quite a blokey thing to do, so Eric
Martha always sounds so organised, I suspect her of an asparagus patch. I’m envious, just waiting for that house, the one I’m not going to move out of ever to start my own patch. Sad, hey?
The nice thing about being away for a month is: Boss night. Having a catch up on you now, got my popcorn.
Wendy went to Germany.
Eric lost three pounds.
Martha is growing asparagus.
I don’t know who said what- but found this just now and thought you’d like it-
Woman beaten up over asparagus prices
Reuters – Mon May 18, 3:35 PM ET
BERLIN (Reuters) – German police are searching for a motorist who beat a 24-year-old woman selling white asparagus because he was upset about her asking price for the coveted springtime vegetable, police said on Monday.

Please oh please oh please tell me you are going to do an artichoke version. I have a little known fact about me and artichokes. It’s a humdinger. Word.
Ooooh, artichokes…
But asparagus on the grill was on the menu tonight, YUM! And I love the shot of the micro and cheese! I’ll take a shot:
Wendy the (weight) loser
Eric likes Spaetzle with his asparagus
Martha hopes her asparagus is just as great as, well, Martha’s!
Wendy went to Germany, Eric is growing the stuff, and Martha lost the weight.
K, let’s mix it up:
Martha: diuretic diva
Eric: German w/a harmonica and a beer stein and a dirndl
Wendy: garden gal
Eric: Germany
Martha: Diuretic
Wendy: Garden.
I think… 🙂
Your pee definately smells after you eat asparagus. You don’t even need to eat alot of it.
Eric went to Germany.
Wendy’s growing it.
Martha told you it was a diuretic.
But, hey – here’s the perfect recipe. It uses asparagus AND requires a microplane: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Pasta-with-Asparagus-Lemon-Sauce-103382
Martha: water weight person
Eric: first garden person
Wendy: Scchhhhpllurgel person
Holy mother of pearl. All the Wendys and Marthas and Asparagi are swirling around in my head. Germany. Diuretics. Adult-Onset-ADD.
If Bossy comes out sane after keeping track of all these responses, I’m planting an asparagus garden the likes of which have never been seen, diuretic or no.
BTW, we have asparagus farms here, and it also grows wild on our shore line, that is until aging parents run over the stalks with their John Deere bushhog.
yeay!! Fun!! I think that the person who said each fact is right next to their fact. The left side matched the right side. 🙂
Could it be?

I’ve dragged Julia Child off the shelf and dragggin myself into the kitchen. The next thing that crosses these lips is hollandaise sauce and spargel (which I HOPE is german for asparagus!) 10:15 pm isn’t too late for hollandaise is it?
I sure hope there’s enough room in that microplane for me and a couple of friends. I hate flying commercial.
Mmmmm, I *love* asparagus. Have you made asparagus soup? It’s just… oh, heavenly. My husband makes it with the ends of the ‘gus, the ones that snap off, and a bunch of cream. Asparagus is also great when cooked on a George Foreman grill!
Okay, on to the meat of this little message… Eric ate asparagus in Germany, Wendy lost 3 lbs. eating it and it made her very happy, and Martha, who rocks the pink hair, has got little green shoots of it coming up in her garden. I really would love to drink gin from the cat bowl with you ladies someday!
