Strawberry and rhubarb are such a perfect couple. Like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Or Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Or Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.
Wait. Scratch that last one. Strawberry and Rhubarb have a lot more staying power than that.
You had me at rhubarb!! I made us a delightfully flaky rhubarb pie this weekend. I take it as some odd kind of compliment when my children will scoop out the pie filling and eat just the crust. Of course, the filling was lucious, so they were appropriately scolded, but still…
I don’t get rhubarb.
Had some rhubarb-strawberry pie last week. Seemed like it would have been same tasting with just strawberries. Looked like celery slices had made their misbegotten way into the mixture.
Okay, all you Yankees can join together and harrass me now.
(But really, I AM glad that you’re all enjoying the thought of rhubarb… )
Aaaah…. You need to expand your repertoire to include a strawberry-rhubarb fool! 1) no crust; 2) involves cream; 3) sounds like a name that Bossy would like.
And 4) if you lose your momentum 1/2 way through, the strawberry-rhubarb puree is damn good on its own.
i’ve never had a strawberry and rhubarb pie. i’ve never even tasted rhubarb. hm…i guess i should do something about that! maybe a taste test with my kids!
I grew up eatin rhubarb straight outta the garden, natures candy. Now in AZ I have to find the big giant overgrown stuff and bite off the red outer before I can eat it, my co-workers think I am nuts. There is nothing like rhubarb, brings me back to my youth! Still like it sour, bitter and all, just straight up!
oooohhh. My mom & grandma always made the very yummies rhubarb crisp. Chop up the rhubarb and a dash of water & loads of sugar; boil to a pulp, and layer that with a cinnamon, oatmeal, flour crumble and bake. Deeelish. The edges get that chewy fruit leather thing going and the rest is an ice scream scoop away from the very essence of summer.

May 26, 2009 at 2:29 pmACK! EEK! GAK! What are you DOING to those STRAWBERRIES?!
They don’t like it, you know — mingling. They are very exclusive. And rhubarb is high on my Don’t Wanna, Don’t Hafta list. : )
