Really? I thought it was bad enough they banned smoking in restaurants, here in North Carolina! I don’t think I”ll be visiting Philiadelphia. That’s just gone ridiculous.
I hate the way people are with smokers. (If you think Philly is bad, try LA. Soooo obnoxiously self-righteous.) I don’t smoke, but I am second-hand tired of the nonsense.
Most people who smoke go wayyy out of their way to be considerate. The very, very few that don’t would be jerks with or without the butt.
As a person who has lived in hte Los Angeles area most of her life…we are self righteous about smoking almost anywhere. Where i work in Ventura County you now cannot smoke with 50′ of any entrance to ANYWHERE restaurants, offices CONDOMINIUMS. I think our state will also pass a bill eventually that condo dwellers maynot smoke even inside their units. I for one (Among many of us self rightous 🙂 am DELIGHTED and republican 🙂
We’re broke in california but we’re PROUD!
And Yay for all the rules! I am so sick of sitting somewhere, standing somewhere or walking along and then getting a mouthful and lungsful of horrible, nasty smoke someone has exhaled or is wafting. My last rental I couldn’t even go out on the balcony or leave the balcony doors open for all the smoke drifting up from the balcony below me. It is not pleasant being the unwilling recipient of all this, those laws are forcing consideration out of those who aren’t considerate, and I’m thankful for them.
I spent 5 months in Spain where people can smoke anywhere they want outside and many places inside. I could never eat on a restaurant patio from all the smokers. The smell from peoples smole stank up my apartment if I opened the windows. The reek was inescapable. I am looking for a product I saw many years ago called “Fart in a Can” to use to move the smokers from my vicinity on my next trip.
I’m glad … There is enough car exahust and pollution in the air as is, we don’t need someones bad habit wafting into our lungs and stinking up our clothes…
Quit more than twenty years ago, Had stopped smoking indoors before that. It amazes me how bothered I am by anybody’s smoke now. College campus where I used to work set up smoking areas outside to get rid of the smoke gauntlets outside the doors to every building 🙂
Former theater dept chair, may he rest in peace, continued to smoke in his own office. Rules be damned.
I’m very sensitive to smoke and chemical fragrances. If I’m in my car and the driver stopped at a light in from of me is smoking I can feel my lungs become inflamed.
I live in an apartment complex where there are a number of two story buildings separated by courtyards. If someone is smoking in the courtyard and I have a window open the smoke wafts in.
I have a neighbor on the floor below, one apartment over, who travels a lot but when he is home hr smokes like a chimney. I learned this by waking up in the middle of the night my first week there gasping for breath. When I turned the light on the air was grey with smoke. It comes through the holes in the walls around the plumbing pipes and such. Because he’s rarely home, because I need to live near my aged parents, because I need cheap rent (trying to save to buy) and because I’ve had a series of bad apartment experiences I put up with it thinking I’ll be out of here soon.
I’ve let him know his smoking causes me to suffer, I’ve called the local health department, building department, congress person, all to no avail.
Recently I had a CT scan and MRI because of stress related issues that are wreaking havoc in my abdomen. I was told that they found pulmonary nodules in my lower lungs and then was sent for a chest CT and they found more.
Besides tar and nicotine, tobacco manufacturers add an array of chemicals to make it taste better as well as make it more addictive. If you put these substances into my body by any other method I could have you arrested and prosecuted. As it is I am helpless to do anything but put myself as far away from you as I can, regardless what it might cost me.
If you’re a smoker and are tired of being treated like a pariah, let me tell you that I look forward to the day when you will be treated like a criminal.
(Maybe Bossy’s dad would like to weigh in on this.)
I live in Atlanta where people are still allowed to smoke in bars and some restaurants. I LOVE live music, but really, really hate that I end up smelling like an ashtry just to go see a band I like. This area needs more strict smoking laws! 🙁
Why should anyone put up with smoking ? If someone was chewing tobacco and spit it on you, you’d be grossed out. Same thing except smoke is a gas that can penatrate much more….
I haven’t met a considerate smoker ever. If they’re out there, they’re hiding. And BTW, there’s an ashtray in your car for a reason, and it ain’t broken. Butts are not to be thrown out the window onto the street from a car, especially one that’s moving. Makes the street and the neighborhoods look dirty. I remember reading about someone (in San Fran I think), that threw a butt out the window, and it ended up going inside the car behind them, and catching fire. And I’m tired of walking outside a club to be hit with a wall of inhaleable cancer. Considerate, my a$$
I don’t really have anything against smoking outside, but am the first to be annoyed by the smoker I’m standing behind in line permeating everyone with smoke, or when I’m trying to enjoy five minutes to myself in the park and a lady sits next to me and lights up. I am a hypocrite. I believe in your right to smoke, just not anywhere near me 😉
yeah, me too. I don’t smoke but I don’t have a problem with people smoking, outside. anywhere, outside.
Really? I thought it was bad enough they banned smoking in restaurants, here in North Carolina! I don’t think I”ll be visiting Philiadelphia. That’s just gone ridiculous.
Bossy, are you a smoker?
What’s next — White Shoes After Labor Day jail?
As a smoker who is almost done (2 a day) I resent being treated as a pariah. I’m stopping for my health, not for self righteous jerks!
