Tired of those pesky glue-on lash extensions? Try this new cosmetic surgery for longer, thicker lashes.
First the cosmetic surgeon removes 30 to 40 hair follicles through a small incision in the back of the scalp.
Next the follicles are sewn onto the patient’s eyelids using a curved transplanting needle.
This “plug and sew” technique costs $3000 an eye and requires only local anesthetic, light sedation, and the kind of vanity logic that allows you to believe that needles in your eye are a good thing.
Side effects of the procedure include increased lash trimming since the transplanted hairs coincidentally grow at the exact same rate as those little hairs at the back of the scalp! And hello? Your lashes will turn white.
Not to mention, prospective clients with kinky hair need not apply.

October 30, 2006 at 8:24 amActually, the curlier your hair, the better for eyelash transplantation. And, fyi, Greta Garbo had naturally white lashes–for which she used mascara. And yes, eyelash extensions (fake ones) are extremely popular, but only last about 6 weeks; whereas eyelash transplants are permanent. –Dr. Bauman
