Dear Miss Eleven,
That’s you when you were just a few hours old. You didn’t even cry when you were born, which Bossy didn’t consider a blessing in the least. In fact it was Bossy — legs still in the air — who kept hollering in the general direction of her husband, “Are you sure she’s OK?” But you probably didn’t cry because you thought Bossy was making enough noise for the both of you.
Or maybe you were born a cool customer because you knew this guy already had your back:
He’s your big brother. He was six-years-old and he met you when you were less than an hour old. His was the face you truly studied that first day and he was responsible for your first smile.
Of course you had an extended chance to hang out with your brother before you were born because pregnant Bossy and your brother went camping in Florida for an entire month.
Bossy and her son and her fetus lived in the World’s Smallest Tent but they didn’t care because it was situated on fine white sand a few yards from a grass carpet a few yards from the Gulf of Mexico. It was here that Bossy waited out her pregnancy, eating fried grouper and peeing, occasionally at the same time.
But back to you.
When we first brought you home from the hospital it was hectic despite the fact that you were an easy baby and Bossy had lots of help. Lord knows it took at least six hands to periodically change your diaper and with six hands occupied like that who had time to cook? So for a year the family lived on Stouffer’s frozen Macaroni and Cheese. Sometimes they’d even heat it up.
In no time at all you realized you had a job within the family and the job description went like this: To Be Sunny. The hours stunk and the wage was pathetic but you showed up every day.
Directly following your first birthday the family moved to a farm in Virginia. The amenities weren’t exactly first-rate but you made the best of it.
And on this farm you passed the autumn:
And the winter:
The following summer you learned to love the beach:
But you also discovered early on that it’s not all fun and games. Even a toddler is called upon to defend her President when that President is assisted by an intern in the Oval Office.
Bossy could go on and on about all the intervening years and how swell you are but frankly she just looked at the clock and if she doesn’t wrap this up within the next few minutes you are going to be twelve.
So Happy 11th Birthday, Sunny Sunnerton. You make everything so much brighter.
Love, Bossy.

July 19, 2007 at 10:31 pmWhat’s your point anyway? To make me cry? To overwhelm me with love for my own children? Make me go wake them up so I can tell them so? And then have us wake unrested and hating each other, because I did that? And have it be your fault? Bossy?
JoAnna in FL says
July 20, 2007 at 8:03 amBeautiful tribute, yes. Beautiful pictures, yes. Seriously! But. . . .
40 comments, and no one else was slightly disturbed that an 11 year old may read about a “blow job”?
Methinks it a bit disturbing, but this may indeed be the point of Bossy’s blog? Everyone else seems to “get” that. 🙂

October 6, 2007 at 6:36 amDeborah Palfrey deserves the Pemberton Award for Good Governance.
Palfrey list is like the black book of 1918.
That trial of the century is deleted from all books.
The list there had 47000 names.
The list here is 46000 phone records.
The listed are not womenizers or machos or ordinary sinners.
They are power brokers, gay lutheran agitators of all wars.
These wretches are only one dirty cover for the real pimps deep underground.
A curse on kingpins, Justice Charles Darling then and judge Adolph Kessler now.
