I love the one with the kid crazed on Hawaiian punch. You guys really know how to do a block party. I go to one tomorrow and was thinking of driving by the store on the way to pick up a package of cookies. (Yes, I drive to my block parties b/c I don’t live on a block.)
All we have is a Steinway parlor grand, a couple guitars, a mandolin, an autoharp, and some bagpipes… in my living room! I would be very happy if a sax lived next door, though.
When the Tongans next door threw a baby luau a couple years ago, they had a complete local-kine blow-out and invited EVERYBODY from the neighborhood. They had a great band with big drums, and hula and fire dancers! The guy works at the Board of Water Supply now, but I guess they are royalty back in Tonga.
Okay, that’s it, I’m moving. I live in the wrong neighborhood. We have no block parties, just some dude who murdered someone for drugs a few blocks away this spring and freaked me out terribly. Bossy, give me your address – new neighbors are coming! (KIDDING)
Ah, the Bossy blocks are the best blocks. My blocks party would involve a lot of retired folks mowing their grass three times in different directions to make a nice pattern, and then sipping lemonade and complaining about my lawn. I would be inside with my friends drinking wine and avoiding mosquitoes. Bossy is welcome to come to the indoor party and drink wine too. (White Castle optional!)
Looks like a wonderful group of friendly people. The neighborhood has a stop in and say hello persona.. Often missing from people today. Seems like a wonderful Southern hospitality kind of day.
Glad all went well..

(Actually my parents neighborhood is like that too. I just have a crazy-ass circus-collector old neighbor dude and a lot of r-tards who drive too fast down my street and make me shake my fists out the window like an old lady.)
Wow, they say Hawaiians are among the happiest in the country. You might think it’s because of the sunshine and tropical atmosphere, but my gut tells me it’s from drinking all that Hawaiian Punch. I mean, my God, look at that girl’s face.
Wow!!! what a blast. Multigenerational. You have a great neighborhood! All those kids will remember this as so much fun – and when they grow up and settle down, maybe they’ll continue on the tradition.
Awwww, that looks like so much fun! My street had a party at Christmas time. Spent most of the time listening to the old bag across the road whine about how many times I leave the house a day… apparently they COUNT!
If we tried to have a blocks party in my area, I’m pretty sure the neighbors would shut us down. They didn’t even want a Little League backstop set up in the empty field in our neighborhood because they were afraid they wouldn’t have any privacy when they wanted to barbeque. I guess my neighbors must barbeque in the nude or something.
Now that would make an interesting blocks party.
Anyway, I’m jealous! I wanna live where Bossy lives!
Have I ever told you about the party we threw at the end of our cul-de-sac for the entire neighborhood? We had a stage, our mailman’s mand played, we roasted a pig, we had tents and a keg, and… well, it was just first-rate.
That said, Bossy’s ‘hood looks like one where I could fit right in, what with that glass of merlot that’s often affixed to my right hand.
Looks like it was such a fun party and a great time was had by all, except the sax player who had to go to the other side of the house and all. Did you all not like him or his style or what? Inquiring minds want to know….and we want to know why there is the back seat of a car in the yard. Don’t even try telling me it is a car seat. 🙂
Hope ours is as much fun, but we are waiting until fall. It is far too hot here in Texas now.
Hi Bossy,
That looks like a fun party. Sad we don’t have parties of that kind here.
I’m a regular reader of this space and love it here. Was in a fowl mood before I read this. Your posts never fail to cheer me up 🙂
Just wanted to thank you for that.
Thank you! 🙂
Holy Crap! You’ve got one hip neighborhood! I really REALLY hope that I live in a place like that someday. My neighbors I have now are all hermits. Maybe that’s why I fit right in. lol. 🙂
Can I come live in your town Bossy? I’ll just make myself a little nest next to Stella- you won’t even notice me. This post makes me want to get out of the city, NOW.
