Hi and welcome to Week One of Bossy’s redesign. Have you met Bossy’s talented design team, her and her?
These two sinners saints didn’t just implement a new look—they restructured the way the blog functions, they created archives for things like Guess and Press that weren’t previously archived, and they added new features, like trillions of tiny heads linked to websites.
And so far everything has been running smoothly, where everything equals the one button on the left-hand side. Not that button, the other one. Now look what you’ve done.
And happily, Bossy has received tons of feedback from her readers reader! For instance Bossy has learned that you love hate the keep reading post feature and have tied its purpose to the millions of dollars Bossy makes every time someone jumps to a new page!
And while it’s true that Bossy is now thrust into an elevated tax bracket by pulling close to $1.67 an hour—a figure only excessive considering the time spent photoshopping pictures of John Cusack’s face onto her husband’s body—Bossy does want to point out that there was no reason to alter her site on behalf of her sponsors since they loved her before the redesign, butt boils and all.
In actuality, Bossy’s new habit of embracing “read more” has given her the ability to publish long, photo-heavy posts that require less load time for those people in situations that can’t manage long load times —and with all of that leftover bandwidth, Bossy can afford to improve the quality of her posted images.
To those of you who still loathe the read more function the way Bossy did back in the Olden Days when she read her favorite blogs on Cave walls—try clicking on the read more link before reading any of the post on the front page. Then you can read it from the beginning on the page that contains the entire post! Bossy already mentioned this little shift in habits changed her life! Her life that is so important that she doesn’t have time for read more, but she does have time to write 276 additional words about read more!
In other news: like every moving day, there are still a few virtual boxes left unpacked, no fault of Bossy’s talented design team—such as all six million photos Bossy still needs to transfer to Flickr so you can see images in her archive posts.
And like the RSS feed situation, which Bossy and her talented design team refer to as The RSS Feed Situation. For those of you, like Bossy, who do not use RSS feeds, then please zzzzzzzzzzzz.
But for those of you who previously subscribed to Bossy’s blog through a feed reader but are no longer receiving updates, please re-subscribe using the RSS link in the column to the right. Your other right.
Have a happy safe weekend.
More like the FOOKING RSS Feed Situation! M I RITE?
I like it but I had to save it to my favorites again because it kept taking me to something weird after the change. All better now. I like it. And all the archiving is great!!
I love the new! Now, in my feed reader I get all the features, without clicking through! The clicking through is a problem seeing as I can get to Google Reader from work, but not the actual sites. So, I can stil read, YAY!
It looks cool. Kinda slick and probably way more hip. But the old one was fine, too, so . . . ?
love the re-do. I use Google Reader so wondered a few days ago where you had gone. Now I get all the features in the reader and never miss my daily dose of Bossy-ness.
I don’t have a problem with “read more” nor do I use a Reader (I still kick it old school and visit blogs). So your new design is win-win for me!
Amen. Deep breath.
BANDWIDTH! That’s the word! Not OPTIMIZATION. – that’s ya know – duhhh.
And I like to refer to the RSS thing as our SH*Tuation, especially when at 4 am snuggled in bed I hear my email dinging in my studio. Just sayin’.
I suppose I can get used to clicking one more time on the “read more” link. Sigh.
The things I have to go through to read your blog!!
Okay, it’s worth it.
Still love you, still love your blog. However.
HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE
the read more.
Sorry.
And here I thought a feed reader was a Bossy sponsored buffet.
Meh, I can live with the read more function. But I love the archives on favorite things and guess and press!
Nicely done team Boozy!
Thank you for caring enough to go through all of this difficulty and effort (and expense) for us!
I’d never leave you even if I hated it. Which I no longer do–’cause now I’m in the know.
My problem with Read More is that the link is kind of hard to see. It’s a light color and it’s at the end of the text instead of on a line of its own, so it’s not consistently in the exact same place. Make it red or some standy-outy color and give it a line of its own, and maybe some of us in the pinhead crowd will notice it BEFORE we read through the whole blurb and then remember, “Duh. I was supposed to click on that little blue link before I read all this.”
I don’t mind Read More at Ree’s site because the preceding blurb is always very very short, so I don’t get sucked into thinking maybe it’s a complete post. Plus, the link really stands out.
/end Read More diatribe./
Really, I like the new look overall, and the improved back-end functionality has got to be making your life a lot happier!
I just love Bossy. That’s all. 🙂
I do like the design. I do. Lovely and functional and just familiar enough. Good job, Team Bossy.
But “read more” just sucketh. There’s no way around it. It tries my patience in a most distressing way. Look, I am so upset I am talking like a Jane Austin character. This is what “read more” does to me!
Bossy is so coy. . . playing hard to get with the “Read More” buttons and such. HARLOT!
What exactly IS a feed reader? Is that the name of Bossy’s husband’s bandwidth?
You know, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this before, but there REALLY needs to be a picture of you -BOSSY- on all Team Boozy photos. You are the LEADER of our team! Represent!
WOW…just checked otu the blog collage and what did I learn? A whooooole lotta white people read Bossy…not that there’s anything wrong with that. Monkey herself is of the brown persuasion, she represents DIVERSITY.
love it – loved it before – love the new – LOVE
Can’t say I’ve ever thought long or hard about the ‘read more’ and now I have – I can officially say – I don’t mind either way 🙂
waaah! bossy’s new look makes my old look jealous. perhaps joe the plumber can come over and fix my pipes. wait, i thought bossy was going to come over to portland in a saturn and organize my blog? what happened to that idea? i liked it.
and your bossy-made portraits are amazing. per usge.
my google reader lost you and I have been at a loss all week. I am glad to be back.
I feel for you on your debt. I know it’s “raising the family” debt and not the selfish, materialistic, me me me, now now now kind Suze and Dave talk about it. Because if it was, you’d have bigger boobs!
Anyway, every time I see that Paul Mitchell ad with that hot chick on the back of the motorcycle I think of you. I would steal her identity and take some of her gigs if I were you.
dear BOSSY,
i will just be right back to comment on, like, the content of this post, just after i finish DYING because i am BOSSY’s reader. like, READER.
and then i DIED because BOSSY’s reader.
back soon,
kate
Dear Bossy,
Thank you for taking the load time into consideration. Just for that, I bestow upon you a free ticket for any number of husbands and boyfriends you decide to stalk and/or marry for the next several days with ** nary** a smart remark from me.
I am sure Bossy realizes this will take the utmost restraint on my part, but if Bossy can sacrifice and make all these changes, surely I can do so for one day. (Evidently “several days” has now turned into “one day.”)
Signed,
The Last Dial-Up Internet Idiot To Cling to the Dark Ages
Your whole page is screwed up with me.
Say’s , sorry post not found then I have to either clk on favorite things or something else in the sidebar, What gives”?
What if Bossy put a link at the very TOP of the daily blog, with something that says “click here to load the whole rootin’ tootin’ thing now while you yourself are reading the first paragraph or two.” Only in Charming Bossy Speak.
The other day I actually remembered to go to “read further” first: only there it wasn’t. This afternoon, I was so excited to see the new posting that, um, I dove right in reading and forgot to zoom ahead to click, then zoom back to read. Therefore an early warning would help me out.
Thanks for doing this daily, and charming so many of us (except the curmudgeons who gripe but who are probably still charmed by you.)
PS. I know, “rootin tootin'” is so lame that I don’t know why I wrote it. End of a loooong work day. I can’t think except in Roy Rogers and Foreman Scotty throwbacks.
I’m sorry for those of you who are foiled from getting your Bossy fix because of your various google readers and rss issues. I have no idea what they are and it makes me grateful. But I hope you all get it fixed soon!
I love Bossy. I will click, jump, skip, hop, show my boobs, vote for Obama and eat sushi…..all for Bossy!!!! Anything Bossy wants….I will do…all to read her Blog everyday….I am a full blown stalker….good thing I live in Kansas…or I would be on her front lawn from dusk til dawn…maybe even past dawn. The Keep Reading feature does not bother me ONE IOTA!!! I know how to click my mouse. Let me close by saying….I love Bossy!! She is my hero.
Hey, the reader thing works now! No more having to remind myself to visit BOSSY’s blog, hurrah! Now I have no excuse not to keep reading…
…did you see what I did there?
I’m here for the cookies. I heard there were gonna be cookies. Where are the cookies?
Did you trick us?
I’ll say it again, because my mouth was (probably) full last time: a beautiful redesign in which function was NOT sacrificed for fashion, and yet? So fashionable. : )
Bossy, how do you make pictures of people look like computer drawings? They are so dead on – like I knew immediately that picture was of Rachel Zoe. I die.
By the way, I just look so forward to your posts. You make me laugh much. Thanks!
Dear Bossy,
In between keyboard strokes while entering this comment, I am going to have to perform CPR on Kate, including mouth-to-mouth, of course. Because Kate is Bossy’s reader, like READER, and Kate has DIED because READER.
So,
*breath* *chest compression*
I don’t mind the READ MORE
*breath* *chest compression*
on Bossy’s blog because
*breath* *chest compression*
really? My pointer finger is
*breath* *chest compression*
in pretty good shape and
*breath* *chest compression*
clicking my mouse is not
*breath* *chest compression*
that hard. Also, I will let you know
*breath* *chest compression*
tomorrow
*breath* *chest compression*
if I was able to revive Kate.
Sincerely, Cheri
Jeez, Boss. so totally no duh that thasts your hubby, secont right. Looks like your boys twin. and gorgeous, too.. no less.
HUH???
*love* the way its all coming together. sadly my head shot does not link to my blog, but I can live with that!
I am a FAN of the ‘READ MORE’ because like you said, the page loads so much faster than before. Which means I can get MORE doses of Bossy humor. YAY.
Bossy, I love your site. The “about” section is off. The writing is all up on the black section (unless it is supposed to be that way). Or is it my computer! Argh.
Verrrrry cool, Bossy. Just like you. : )
I like change…keeps things interesting.
I don’t mind the “read more” feature, but agree with the comment above that it needs to stand out more (sometimes hard to find). And the blurb above it could be much shorter (Just a few enticing lines).
Oh, and thanks for keeping “Keeping it Real. Real Silly”. I’ve always gotten a chuckle at that 🙂
Whoa…this redesign is a trip…wtg, ladies. =D
(although, I’m not a fan of the “read more” …though understandable why it’s used often)
Love the new site. Don’t care if other people don’t like various functions, it’s your site!
But, I need to know something…I have asked a number of other sites…what is RSS?????
How come the “check out latest posts” section shows me only black boxes and won’t let me click on anything? Is that section unfinished, or is my computer not compatible with something? Sorry, just a basic blog reader that doesn’t know much about the inner workings!
okay, sorry to be obnoxious. i was waiting for a post like this when you’d mention that you couldn’t fit all your readers in the collage. but you didn’t! is it more than just me and mr. squirrel that got left out in the cold?
kitty joe, it’s not just you. I have faith in Bossy that she’s working on it.
Just like she and her fabu team fixed the RSS problem. No naps on that here, I was thrilled to have it fixed. Thanks, Team Bossy!
i was wondering what happened to my bossy feed. after about a week i decided to come over to your site directly and see. i’m kind of slow.
