This countdown lady.
Bossy can’t remember where she purchased her — or if she’s vintage or a reproduction — but she’s been counting things down in Bossy’s house for over a decade.
Mostly she lives in the Christmas box with the decorations, but she’s been used to count down other occasions, too. Like the time Bossy’s brother and his family were moving back from Japan after six years. As soon as their return fell into double digits (99 days), this lady got to work and didn’t stop until the plane landed.
In fact, taped on the base near her feet, is a fortune from a cookie: Friends long absent are coming back to you.
The countdown lady long ago lost one of her 6s and a 0, but someone drew the missing numbers on a piece of paper cut out to look like the rest of the wooden numbers, and the count down continues, tick tock.

December 16, 2008 at 10:19 amI think it’s the little white dots in her eyeballs that makes her look psychotic in this picture. I’m sure she’s perfectly well-adjusted in person or from a distance 🙂

December 16, 2008 at 11:03 amDid you use her doing the big cleanse last week? Nah…that chubby little face staring back at you would have made it worse.

December 17, 2008 at 6:28 amI am exceptionally confused at to why a countdown lady was ever created…and why she was created with gingerbread men numbers… I just don’t get it?!?!? What was the creator thinking? I need some kind of accompaning sign like “Days until…(fill in the blank)”
I have been thinking about it for several minutes now and this whole baffling countdown cookie/mamie object really freaks me out, which is why I must have one immediately!

December 17, 2008 at 1:48 pmIf you have a Michaels in your area, you may be able to find replacement wooden gingerbread people this time of year. Also if people can’t find a countdown lady like her, try Etsy.com. They have a section where you can request stuff to be made.
