The classic peacoat.
You may remember back in October when Bossy built a case against her son after he voiced a desire to replace his worn down jacket with an ice pack a peacoat from Old Navy.
Bossy opened up the debate to her readers reader, and the consensus was that yes he should get one, because peacoats are to college students like… like two things that look cute together but don’t keep each other entirely warm on really frigid days.
And even as Bossy types this she knows her son is sitting in some dorm room 121 miles away going, “It is entirely warm,” but anyway — he may be correct about this particular coat, owing to the fact that he followed the other recommendation made throughout the comment section, and purchased a real wool peacoat from an Army Navy store.
And Bossy admits it sure does look handsome. Especially with a tattered copy of Aeneid of Virgil tucked under the arm.

January 21, 2009 at 9:52 amIs it wrong for a 30 year old mother of two to have a crush on a college freshman?
Bossy’s son is so dang cute.

January 21, 2009 at 10:17 amI was thinking much the same as rikki, although not a mum (or quite 30!)
How old is a freshman?

January 21, 2009 at 11:45 amBossy’s son made a good choice. I got my pea coat at an Army Navy store as well, and I love it. (Yes, it actually keeps me warm.)
Julie says
January 21, 2009 at 11:47 amI agree he looks fantastic in the pea coat but Bossy, do you read “Stuff White People Like”? You gotta check out the entry on Pea Coats –
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/10/02/111-pea-coats/
I don’t want to alarm you, but I think maybe your son is white.
RuthWells says
January 21, 2009 at 12:02 pmSee, he’s in college. The looking handsome thing can translate directly into the keeping warm thing if he plays his cards right.

January 21, 2009 at 12:33 pmNancy wishes Yente (the Matchmaker from Fiddler) would pay a visit to Bossy’s son with 8X10 glossies, a resume, and bio on her daughter (to be 21 in June) … Caitlin =)

January 21, 2009 at 12:36 pmThe real thing…much better than Old Navy any day! Looks great on him!

January 21, 2009 at 1:22 pmThis is so classic. When I heard how cold it was on that other coast, I actually was wondering whether The Pea Coat was keeping the BossySon warm or not. So thanks for the update.
Bossy’s Son is a good sport allowing mom to feature his photos so many times on her blog. Does he appreciate all the swooning that ensues? (Secretly?)
MidLifeMama says
January 21, 2009 at 2:32 pmBossy’s son must be a heartbreaker at Columbia, what with that cute girlfriend he has and all. And did buying the coat at the Army surplus store fit into the Poverty Challenge better than Old Navy? And is it ironic that Old Navy doesn’t sell anything old or authentically Navy? I always get confused on the true definition of irony.
Lara says
January 21, 2009 at 2:33 pmBossy, what are you trying to do to us??? First that post about Obama’s…umm…stimulus, er…”package” and now this extremely cute (but entirely too inappropriately young for most of us readers) young man? That’s just wrong…I feel dirty….I need a shower…

January 21, 2009 at 2:55 pmAt first glance I thought this was a Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren ad. A handsome young chap, indeed!

Grandma J says
January 21, 2009 at 9:09 pmThat’s it! If I’m too young and too cute for Bossy’s son, then I’m getting my own Navy Peacoat. We can set the fashion trend together! Well, cyper-ly together, sort of.
Bossy, thank you for the link!
