Heating up an unopened bottle to room temperature.
It’s said that the perfect temperature to drink red wine hovers around 60 degrees, which Bossy thinks is one tropical beach shy of enough degrees.
Bossy keeps her wine in her cold basement, so the bottles are quite chilly when hauled up the basement steps every couple of hours days.
So Bossy fills her sink with warm water and submerges the bottle, and then she even fills her wine glass with warm water in preparation.
Yeah, OK, this Favorite Thing is a little obsessive. Carry on.

If Bossy’s basement is that cold, store the Grey Goose there and drink that instead.

February 27, 2009 at 10:39 amI almost didn’t notice Bossy’s wine glass waiting in anticipation to the side of the sink. Very nice indeed.

February 27, 2009 at 10:43 amOh no. I can’t take it when wine is warm. AT ALL. In flagrant disregard of all wine rules, I add ice cubes even to red wine.
You may commence scolding me now. I’m used to it. But it still won’t shame me into drinking warmed wine. GROSS.

February 27, 2009 at 11:52 amI think I just had a stroke. I MEANT to say “meh” to the wine connoisseUrs s(no “o”- don’t know where it came from) who think that wine needs to be a certain temperature. As long as it is in liquid form, I’m okay.

February 27, 2009 at 12:07 pmI’ll go with whatever Bossy says about wine because she knows her stuff.
I think Bossy is extremely smart when it comes to photography….all wine pictures should be slightly tipsy.

February 27, 2009 at 12:59 pmYou know that wine glass isn’t for red wine, right? The glass makes all the difference for me. I can even drink cold red wine from the right glass. This:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/96311100
is the perfect red wine glass because you can fit half the bottle in there and still have a little room at the top so you still look all classy and stuff. Could you pick some of these up for me? We don’t have an Ikea nearby…

February 27, 2009 at 1:00 pmForgot to mention…
I keep breaking mind, and that has nothing to do with fitting half a bottle of wine in there. No, not at all.

February 27, 2009 at 1:41 pmI tend to like it cooler, but will drink it at ANY temp…I am picky like that. However, as much as I love red wine, I have trouble drinking it often because the whole time, I picture my teeth soaking up the color. Silly, I know, but true.

February 27, 2009 at 2:09 pmYeah, but when I tried this, the box got all soggy and stopped up the drain.

February 27, 2009 at 2:25 pmMy mother’s been known (regularly) to nuke her first glass of white – just five seconds! – to remove the chill.
I’m with you. I don’t care for the 58 degree reds, especially this time of year.

Bossy, not only do you have the best blog but the best commenters. Ha! Cheers.

February 27, 2009 at 7:09 pmMy German relatives used to have a glass of red wine every night. Maybe one reason my 2nd cousin is still around at age 88!

February 28, 2009 at 6:11 amYou know Bossy, a half hour in the balmy temperatures of the AIR at Granite Glen would achieve the very same result. Sure we are a half-days plane flight away, but seriously, NO HOT WATER REQUIRED. Of course, we may have to start an exchange program for my chardonnay…
We on?
🙂

February 28, 2009 at 11:56 amI find the optimal red (or white) wine glass is my Curious George Welch’s jelly jar #2 (“collect all six”)
Is the anything more annoying than a wine snob?
I think not.

February 28, 2009 at 5:50 pmOoh, I LOVE Gabbiano! We actually got to visit the winery in Italy about 345 years ago when I was younger and didn’t have to haul a kid around with me. My favorite thing about the beautiful winery? The eager little Newfoundland puppy that followed us around everywhere!

February 28, 2009 at 10:24 pmI am so with the people above who cannot drink room-temperature wine. Even though in my house in AZ, room temperature is about 78 unless I get brave with the air-conditioning bill. I keep red wine in the fridge. And then I add ice too. I know it’s wrong. But I don’t care. In fact, I think I’m going to go drink some ice-cold red wine right now. Thanks, Bossy! 😉
