Smirnoff vodka? Since when do college kids have enough money for Smirnoff? Whatever happened to the old broke-college-student standby of the $6 handle that is guaranteed to give you a blinding headache for 24 hours?
Hi Bossy. I don’t comment on your posts very often (because I read them in an RSS reader and it doesn’t let me) but I love reading your blog and wanted you to know that I’ve offered you a blogging award! Click on over to my blog to see what it is 🙂
I heard, now mind you, this is pure hear-say, but college kids actually buy large liquor bottles and pour the alcohol down the drain and then pour in high protein brain food blends with ginkoba and need the large bottle but not coke bottles because they are too big for a book bag.
No? well, that’s what I heard.
This is hilarious. And brings back such memories…
Let’s just say, it is NEVER a good idea to mix equal parts tequila and Diet Orange Slice in a large plastic tumbler.
Yeah, this is pricey stuff. Maybe ill-gotten gains with end-of-the-year book selling cash? This is a great shot, but it is definitely missing the Mad Dog. He will love this memory 🙂
I love, love, love Bossy’s blog so please don’t accuse me of being a troll, but I don’t love the underage drinking. 🙁 I lost a friend 10 years ago today to a drunk driver – the kid driving was a college freshman. I at least hope that these kids were not driving… I know, we all drank (usually the cheap stuff) in college, but I am kinda bummed that Bossy is sort of condoning underaged drinking here, and in several other posts. ;( Sorry I’m such a downer… I love 99% of the stuff I read here. Bossy makes my day most of the time!
I feel you, JCT. Until this country sheds its prudishness and proactively teaches kids how to ease into the adult “vices,” underage drinking will always carry the specter of potential tragedy. I’m not a fan either.
My sole comfort about our boys being in NYC is that they are NEVER driving. I guess we do need to have a talk about crossing the streets, though.
Have a beautiful weekend, p.j.

Kids these days are so spoiled.
How green of the students to think about the environment!
–>I didn’t notice many Boone’s Farm and Mad Dog 20/20 bottles in there….It IS college, right?

Have to agree (sigh), this post may need to tie in with daily poverty party.
I guess all of the rich kids go to Columbia University, I’m with Kristin, that’s some pricey fuel in there.
There must be a separate bin for Diet Pepsi cans cuz not all college students like booze.

Is it wrong that I can identify 96% of those bottles at first glance?

There is hope for the future. Of course, it may be a bit schnockered, but it’s still hope.
Drink Responsibly?
Unless they’ve lowered the drinking age, those must be some old freshman.

ugh – so much fruit-flavored liquor. . . .
Evidently, green apple smirnoff is the new mad dog 20/20

And I thought the price of tuition was my biggest concern. Now I see it’s the price of the alcohol.
Forget the Smirnoff, there is an ABSOLUT bottle in there too! I was looking for the Riunite bottles myself.
You know, they could have donated all the pop tops in the Smirnoff bottle to Ronald McDonald House.
Surely Columbia’s drinking games are top shelf too.

Well I thought it was hilarious! I live in Trinidad where drinking is a national sport and no one recycles.
Absolut Education
Whew — for a minute there I thought you had been snooping around my breakfast trash.
Foolery recycles.
My how times have changed! All we could afford was Aristocrat.
Glad to see them returning them for refills like responsible citizens!!
