This past weekend Bossy was at a high school graduation party with her head in the sangria bowl when suddenly she spied these:
Can we just all agree they win for cutest shoes?
When Bossy inquired about them, her friend was generous enough to provide Bossy with detailed information, including which catalogue features them and how much they cost, but Bossy couldn’t hear her friend over the din of her own brain spinning the possible justifications for purchasing yet another pair of shoes.
Once home Bossy thought, how hard could it be to locate a pair of red polka dot espadrilles? Bossy began her search by googling a phrase — as luck would have it: red polka dot espadrilles. The first shoe to reveal was this one:
Close, minus a few hundred polka dots and a handful of cute. So Bossy kept looking:
While it’s plain to see they are red and feature the signature jute rope sole of an espadrille, they are clearly not what Bossy was searching for. So she continues:
Cute, although not classically red. The search moves forward:
And finally, Bossy’s favorite search result for red polka dot espadrilles:
Just as well, really, considering Bossy’s poverty. Although an unrequited relationship with a shoe makes Bossy feel a little like Cinderella, except in Bossy’s fairytale there is no prince. Only lots and lots of cleaning.

Bossy’s search engine must be linked to my library’s card catalog. I put in the exact title of a book, and get 432 hits that have nothing to do with what I am looking for!
I will be Snow White to your Cinderella as I scrub the steps of the castle – without cute shoes. Because they don’t make cute shoes in my size.
Florida Liz saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:03 am
Oh, how I laughed. First of all you are just plain funny, and I happened to have done a shoe search this past weekend with frighteningly similar results. It took me half an hour to weed through the NOT-at-ALL what I wanted to find what I was searching for. At least yours are all………..shoes. Good luck!
MariaV saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:09 am
Those are very cute. Try ebay Miss Bossy. I just skimmed through the results and they have some red polka dot espadrilles. Not exactly like your friend’s, but damn cute.
Half Assed Kitchen saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:16 am
The light blue ones with the little bow? They’re even CUTER.
Debby saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:17 am
Agree w/Bossy, the orginal ones are the bomb. Must have. Dratted poverty party
bossy's friend amy saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:22 am
have you tried boden? the cutest (not for the poverty party) clothing ev-her! http://www.boden.com
Hokie Deb saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:31 am
–>I did a quick google search and the first result was this post by Bossy but the second link was Accurate.
The key is to put what you’re looking for in quotations in google. Not to ruin the fun of Bossy’s searches…but I’m the web-savy mom.
zidia saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:42 am
Do Bossy’s reader/s know that the first word that she ever uttered was “shoes”?
David saysJune 3, 2009 at 10:58 am
No prince? I would beg to differ.
lorri saysJune 3, 2009 at 11:44 am
Hey Bossy – go to http://www.greatstyledeals.com – they have alot of different styles of red polka dot shoes. Alot of them are darn cute!!!
Auds at Barking Mad saysJune 3, 2009 at 11:46 am
Ok this post just TOTALLY and PAINFULLY smacked me upside the head and put me in my place as I was about to buy a brand new Canon EOS 50D.
Maria saysJune 3, 2009 at 12:00 pm
I agree with ebay, but then the gratification may be delayed. Then again, with Dansko in mind you may be willing to go delayed gratification. And thank you very much I have reinforced toe pantyhose!
OmegaMom saysJune 3, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Har! I think the “espadrilles” is overwhelming the “red polka-dot” in the search algorithm. I tried googling “red polka-dot sandals” and got some real cuties–give that a whirl! Just don’t go for the five-inch platform heel polka-dot sandals…;-)
Stacey ball saysJune 3, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Try Ebay! I just found some cute polka dot ones on there for cheap cheap!
RuthWells saysJune 3, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I’ve been dating the mid-heel-size-7-black-career-shoe section at endless.com, myself.
zelzee saysJune 3, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Actually I am real partial to shoe #2……..now I am in search of them!!!
Reeb saysJune 3, 2009 at 1:11 pm
I image-googled “red polka-dot shoes” — some very cute items although no clone of the party shoes.
Bossy’s bold. Why didn’t she just march up to the owner of these feet and ask where the shoes were from?
Reeb saysJune 3, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Agree about the shoes begging for Aunt Sadie’s hosiery.
Ms. Cranky Pants saysJune 3, 2009 at 1:12 pm
As long as those Aunt Bea shoes from a few weeks ago don’t show up again. Still. traumatized.
JPB saysJune 3, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I know they had these shoes in the 40’s. What!!
Melanie @ Mel, A Dramatic Mommy saysJune 3, 2009 at 2:05 pm
The yellow ones, they call to me! But, I’ve bought tow pairs of shoes in the past past month. Despite their excellent price. I need to go on a shoe buying hiatus (until I find the yellow ones).
Melanie @ Mel, A Dramatic Mommy saysJune 3, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Shoot, that should have read “two”
Know it All saysJune 3, 2009 at 3:12 pm
I agree with Half Assed Kitchen….the blue ones rock!
Fernanda saysJune 3, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Damn, Georgia, you know you’re welcome to borrow them any time. They’re Boden, at least 2 years old, and were on sale for less than 40 bucks, and….I bought another red pair and a pair w. brown stripes. (The blue ones, alas, were sold out). Bwa ha ha!
3limes saysJune 3, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Oh Bossy. They were indeed cute. But the searching for them was so much fun for us! Please search more. Maybe purple satin slipper?
Reeb saysJune 3, 2009 at 4:57 pm
So funny to hear you called by your real name here in cyber-Bossyland. Is Fernanda really the wearer of the shoes??
kate saysJune 3, 2009 at 4:57 pm
the exact same thing happened to me, except it was San Francisco Macy’s and it was lime green suede peep-toe stillettos with navy blue yarn pompons on the toes. that’s the same, right?
Mini Van Bohemian saysJune 3, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Not JUST the same, but maybe a little sluttier:
Mr Farty saysJune 3, 2009 at 6:18 pm
BOSSY could always ply her friend with gin then feign ignorance when the cute shoes mysteriously disappear.
I only said “could”.
Marian saysJune 3, 2009 at 8:30 pm
close, more casual, still cute, rather cheap (no, not my husband)
Cupcake Murphy saysJune 3, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Oh my god. Aren’t the second ones Cordani? This must be a sign for me to buy another pair. Those espadrilles sure started somethin.
The Girl Next Door saysJune 3, 2009 at 11:32 pm
I have found all of my sole mates right here on this post. B/c you understand there is no such thing as Too Many Shoes. I love you all.
Me? i have pink polka dot shoes that kill (see jugglin jenn for our tootsie photo shot). Sadly me and red, we just don’t get along….
Jodi Anderson :: so NOT cool saysJune 3, 2009 at 11:38 pm
An equation for Jodi (or Bossy, or anyone, or no one):
Jodi doesn’t drink for a few months. Jodi neglects Bossy’s blog, and most other blogs, for a few months. Jodi gets back on the sauce here and there. Jodi visits Bossy’s blog and a few others here and there. Jodi drinks more than usual tonight. Jodi visits Bossy and *IN HER HEAD* waxes nostalgic with Bossy more than usual tonight.
Question: Should Jodi stay on the sauce?
Answer: Jodi should stay on the sauce.
(Wow, same words, different order. Coincidence? I think NOT.)

Jami saysJune 6, 2009 at 6:28 pm
I’m really wanting the blue red ones! TOO cute!
giddy girlie saysJune 9, 2009 at 5:22 pm
I saw some similiar ones not too long ago at Payless, where shoes are always under $20 (plus, they always have buy-one-get-one free sales!). You might check there? That qualifies as a poverty purchase, no?
fra saysJune 29, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Hola Bossy! I tried to forget the cute red polka dot shoes, but really couldn’t (and I’m not even too obsessed with shoes generally). Please could you tell where I can find them? They would so totally brighten my sad, vacationless summer in school:D Thanks!!
