There’s been a lot of rain in Bossy’s area lately, and the dead tree limbs overhead like to chunk apart and hurl themselves at the ground. Unsuspecting pets and children beware.
Just one of the many dangers associated with living in Tree City, USA.
Not to feed into any paranoia, but Bossy might want to change out the skylight glass over her bed for tempered steel, otherwise rather than just sawing logs she might just be eating them.
I hear ya! We have a tree on the DOT right of way. It is a dead/dying oak. We have notified VDOT and two arborists have said it is dying. Dangerous limbs have been falling out lately with all this rain. One fell on a passing car and shattered the windshield. VDOT’s response thus far? An act of God? Can you F^%$ING believe that?? They are doing everything they can do avoid taking it down. Bastards!
BH, we had a huge precipitously dangling branch for the first couple of years we lived in our house. Husband wouldn’t let me walk under it; eventually we had a tree guy out who removed it (and more problem areas.)
Husband called it a widow-maker. Or in the case of unsuspecting wives walking under, a widower-maker.
I’m sitting here at work in another Tree City, U.S.A. — I wonder how many there are? — surrounded by huge oaks, sycamores and maples which are all known widow-makers. Still better than redwoods, which tend to blow down in high winds.

June 18, 2009 at 11:17 amBossy must have missed the enormous dead branch that snapped off and is now caught, dangling precipitously directly above the one in the photo.
