The campground dock.
It’s just about as insignificant as can be, and yet seems to dominate the Bossy family vacation.
It’s the first place the family visits upon their arrival at the campground:
And every night after dinner the family returns to check to see that it’s still there, with its No Swimming sign. Hi, Park Ranger!
Usually Bossy’s daughter has to brave chilly evening Lake Champlain by herself, except on the rare occasion she can recruit a fellow convict:
By the way, you may be wondering what Bossy is doing while her family breaks the dock rules one by one:

August 7, 2009 at 12:35 pmLOVE these photos! Except the second one scared the crap outta me. It looked like Bossy’s daughter was lost at sea, with only the dock to keep her afloat. (I have a serious fear of… well, being lost at sea.)

August 7, 2009 at 2:06 pmIs that a belt on Bossy? I would feel very under~dressed if I camped with you. In my ragged gym shorts and husbands t-shirts.

August 7, 2009 at 2:17 pmThose photos bring back memories of a summer on Grand Isle on Lake Champlain. Sighhhhh. We rented a cabin, as my mother was a city girl from the Bronx, and camping was out of the question.

August 8, 2009 at 5:21 amNiiiiiiiiiiice. I haven’t been to Lake Champlain since I was 7 (that’s 28 long years), but I still remember how lovely it is. WTF is up with the no swimming?!

August 8, 2009 at 8:29 amThose photos are excellent. The first one is pretty spooky though. Looks like the sky is coming down on Bossy’s daughter.
Strange how that dock seems so short on the second picture and so loooong on the third one. Frogs must sure have an interestingly different outlook on the world.
I looked up Lake Champlain now, once more I gained some profound knowledge here at Bossy’s campfire. Thanks! Though I’ve been wondering why one would camp at a lake when the ocean is nearby. But I imagine that being really cold, not only in the evenings.

August 8, 2009 at 8:47 amGorgeous photos…. I really love the one of your daughter swimming and of your feet. 🙂 We spend all summer at a lake in Iowa and my view of the swimming is almost exclusively from a bench on the dock or a chair on the lawn. —And that is OK. 😉
