Lamps on kitchen counters.
You’re going to think Bossy is totally making up this Favorite Thing because she is so tired and barely took any interesting photos this past week, and you would be entirely wrong right.
But, it actually is a favorite thing. Bossy has all of the proper lighting in her kitchen, where proper lighting equals gah don’t stand there, you’re casting a shadow on the stove — but there is something about the coziness of a real lamp with a shade that cheers Bossy up every time she sees it.
It’s all about the glowy.

November 30, 2009 at 9:35 amI agree. Also on my office desk. People say how cozy the room feels. (And look at the wine on Bossy’s counter, nearly outnumbering the cookbooks!)

November 30, 2009 at 10:33 amI had a lamp in my kitchen forever, and loved it dearly until it broke. Now I need a new one, but it has to be absolutely perfect.
I gave a friend one of my absolutely perfect lamps right before my kitchen one broke. And it would have been really absolutely perfect in my kitchen now that it is redone. White milkglass and everything. Darnit. The world hates me. Lamps hate me.
So sad.

November 30, 2009 at 10:52 amI noticed Bossy uses those rubber thingies to re cork her wine bottles too. Cool.

November 30, 2009 at 11:27 amBossy! I totally agree! My daughter was doing her Geometry homework at our breakfast bar a week or two, but discovered that she left her calculator in her locker, so I retrieved my old scientific calculator from the back of the junk drawer, but it was ancient (seriously, it’s been 25 years since I took Geometry) and the solar cell didn’t work well, so I moved a little lamp from a nearby bookshelf to the bar where she was working so that she could hold the calculator up to it for more light (poor kid.) I loved the way it looked so much, that I left it there. When the kids sit down at the bar for breakfast each morning, it looks like they’re eating at a little French bistro. Tres charmant!

November 30, 2009 at 11:29 amI’m pretty sure those wine bottles on the counter are helping with the glowy.
Well, anyway, they help me…

November 30, 2009 at 11:36 amI never realized that is why I love Bossy’s entertaining photos so much–the glowy. I have been emulating that myself.

November 30, 2009 at 12:30 pmI suspect we love the glowy lighting because it is as close to a fire and hearth as most of us will come in our kitchens.
We humans gravitate to that.

November 30, 2009 at 1:55 pmI completely agree. I’ve been looking for the perfect counter lamp for over a year!

November 30, 2009 at 1:58 pmWell, I’ll be the one dissenting vote then. Any additional item on the counter = clutter. I get my glowy from mini light strung over the sink, changed out seasonally of course!

November 30, 2009 at 2:26 pmI’ve been procrastinating with installing the puck lights under the cabinets…when all I have to do is stick a lamp there! And keeping the flexible straws next to the wine…also a good strategy. Thanks Bossy!

November 30, 2009 at 3:06 pmHow do you not knock it off the counter and onto the floor into a billion pieces? Because that is my history with anything small and movable on the countertop. (RIP glass votive holder in a cute “watering can” stand.)

November 30, 2009 at 4:08 pmFor the longest time, the lamp on my kitchen counter was a blue lava lamp which I ran night and day until the little blobs inside stopped floating. That was such a sad day.

December 1, 2009 at 12:58 amHow funny! I was just thinking, over Thanksgiving weekend, about how I’ve always wanted to have a lamp on my kitchen counter. Love it.
