You are looking at a pair of strappy sandals recently purchased by Bossy. And that sound you hear is the collective shrug of Bossy’s esteemed reading council — but Bossy assures you, the news flash becomes more interesting when you consider the fact Bossy can’t walk in heels.
Slouching at nearly six-feet tall, Bossy never had need for anything that distances her even farther from terra firma — but Bossy admits to feeling like less of a woman having never acquired this most basic skill.
Enter Bossy’s Heel Camp! To borrow from Boot Camp philosophy, Heel Camp is an intense, rigorous, physically, psychologically and emotionally challenging program that forces someone to improve or give up. The advantages to heel camp is that if a soldier passes through this process, he is stronger and more equipped to take on the stress and challenges of combat. Ready to get started, sports fans?
Begin with a series of jumping jacks. Hooyah!
Next drop to the ground and give Bossy some knee lifts. Suck it up, buttercup!
Now let’s get going with the lunges. Move it move it move it!
And finally, it’s time for the obstacle course. Are you eyeballing me, Bossy?

August 27, 2010 at 10:30 amKnee lifts in the little black dress? Cheeky. I wonder what the neighbors were thinking as they watched you from their windows.

August 27, 2010 at 10:31 amAh, to walk a mile in Bossy’s heels.

August 27, 2010 at 10:37 amThose shoes are freakin’ fabulous! And normally, I’d scoff at the black bra thingy with the see through floral tank, but with Bossy’s oh-so-slim silhouette, it looks great. Oh, if only I could stretch myself to 6 feet, then I wouldn’t have to lose any weight. Sigh.

August 27, 2010 at 11:04 amI didn’ think I would like those shoes but I think the blue trim is what puts into the “like” category for me. Next Heel Camp session should include heels that AREN’T strapped to your feet. I find those even harder!
And “plunges”? My trainer always calls them lunges…or maybe that is what I hear because I am thinking of lunging at him to strangle him

August 27, 2010 at 11:06 amI need heel bootcamp. Except, at 6-2, you will never catch me in heels. Which makes me a little sad.

August 27, 2010 at 11:25 amLove the shoes. (And the heels camp. Which I originally typoed as hells camp. Which may be a more accurate name.)

August 27, 2010 at 12:01 pmI love this in so many ways. Here, let me list them for you. I’ll use bullet points for your convenience!
– at 5’10”, I have also never learned to walk in heels. I bought white sandals with a heel at BlogHer, tottered around the lobby for approximately 5 minutes and then promptly ditched them for some flats. I’m still feeling the shame.
– the obstacle course cuteness is positively killing me dead.
– the skirt-holding modesty during the knee-lifts. That’s it.
So, how’s the heel-walking now? I’d need a miracle to get good at it.

August 27, 2010 at 12:12 pmIf you are a size 9, and get RILLY good at walking in those torture chambers, I have about 30 pair of new and damn near new high heels to send you. I only wear flip flops now. ONLY

August 27, 2010 at 1:27 pmDo you have those in a 7 1/2? Also, what do you recommend to get in shape for icy sidewalk running to catch the train season?

August 27, 2010 at 1:49 pmSuggestion: exercise clothes usually don’t include little black skirts. But yes, the neighbors were probably taking pictures too.
And Bossy: please, put on some weight, the rest of us somehow don’t seem quite as slim and we feel bad.

August 27, 2010 at 1:51 pmI just participated in heel camp at BlogHer. I was really worried I’d careen down an escalator and become the only fatality there. But, success was mine, Now the shoes are tucked away until the next adventure.

August 27, 2010 at 2:16 pmLordy, I couldn’t walk in those heels and I’m only 5’4″, so believe me I know heels. I’m getting blisters just looking at them. Very cute, though.
Dobes says
August 27, 2010 at 2:16 pmI’m 5’11” and have never learned to walk in heels, either! If my shoes have more than a 1″ heel I get afraid of bumping my head on awnings and stuff. But those sandals are really cute and you look fantastic in them. Maybe I’ll give it a try one day!

August 27, 2010 at 2:25 pmWork it, Bossy! Those shoes are definitely worth the effort.

August 27, 2010 at 3:07 pmGreat shoes! I can’t walk in heels either. I already fall on my face enough in flats. I don’t think I’d be able to survive heels.

August 27, 2010 at 3:23 pmI’m tripping and falling just thinking about strapping those shoes on. I don’t need to wear ’em.

August 27, 2010 at 5:17 pmMy 5’10 (and still growing) daughter loves to rock a 4 inch heel. Short Homecoming dates be damned. Me? Who could really use the extra inches. No can do.

August 27, 2010 at 5:35 pmYou’ve convinced me to enroll in heel camp — learning to walk in heels is obviously worth it if they can make one look glamourous while doing jumping jacks and heel lifts.

August 27, 2010 at 5:41 pmOMG I love heels. Couldn’t live with out them (although in my old age I’m starting to realize I’m going to need to as my feet are rebelling). This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I’m 5′ 2″ though.
KathyB says
August 27, 2010 at 7:57 pmMy daughter at 5’3″ says she can’t wear flats. I know I gave birth to her, but I’m closer to 5’7″. She and my mother – true petites.
I can walk in heels if I have to, mostly decline the option. I have no back problems and no foot problems. Don’t want them either. Now I am old as dirt and invisible so life is good :>)

August 27, 2010 at 11:05 pmI have bad, sad feet. I ALMOST bought a pair of heels last week. But I fell off them in the store. I took it as a sign from above and also from the ladies in the store that were laughing at me.

August 27, 2010 at 11:13 pmI have no idea what you were doing in those pictures but it was amazingly hot.

August 27, 2010 at 11:44 pmHilarious, as usual. You always make me laugh. Looking at your bare legs in the heels reminds me how much I miss seeing womens legs in hose…and that includes my own. Someone said the Sex and the City movie/show put an end to us wearing pantyhose. I don’t think it’s a move forward…almost every woman’s legs look prettier in them.
Jami says
August 28, 2010 at 1:58 amI am 5’10” and one of the reasons I liked meeting you in person was that I didn’t have to look down to talk to you when we were standing. As for shoes, I wear a size 11, and I do wear heels. Not really high ones but most of my shoes have heels. I’m one of those who don’t care that I’m tall because on me, it looks good. And it looks downright (or upright, I guess) gorgeous on you, so rock the heels girlfriend!

August 29, 2010 at 12:09 amBossy! I have this SAME skirt you’re wearing– a real deal from TJ Maxx (or was it Marshalls?) Who knows, but any who! I got it for super cheap because it had some tears in the waist band and I went to the manager to get some $$ off…it worked! I sewed it up and good as new. LOVE it and wear it all the time! NOW…if I can get those shoes and shirt from you…
