Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Sigur Rós, Starálfur.
How this 4-piece Icelandic band escaped Bossy’s attention for over a decade Bossy will never know, but they have certainly crawled into her consciousness now.
Known for their lead singer’s falsetto and dreamy arrangements that straddle many different musical genres, their tunes have found their way onto soundtracks over the years, such as Vanilla Sky, The Life Aquatic, and even 24.
Unlike many other highly produced bands which Bossy places in her own made-up category she refers to as Hypnotica, these guys can actually play their tracks live.
This song, off of Bossy’s favorite record Ágætis Byrjun, well, it just makes Bossy go belly up. In many ways it’s like U2 meets Aaron Copeland.

September 8, 2010 at 2:38 pmI like this. I have just a few songs from Sigur Rós that I really enjoy. For some reason, I have trouble getting into most of their stuff…maybe I just haven’t been patient enough.

September 13, 2010 at 1:59 pmLoooove Sigur Rós. They were the soundtrack as I traveled around Iceland the fall of 2007. A year later, I saw them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA on a misty night with the lights of the bay visible from the highest seats in the amphitheater. Truly magical. There is a documentary that follows them around to different sites in Iceland, mostly outdoor, where they perform. If you can find it, watch it. You’ll end up appreciating them as people as well as artists.
