Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
This song isn’t new. And it’s not all that unique or particularly inspired. The band 311 isn’t new, and in fact since forming in Nebraska in 1988 they’ve had all kinds of hits. But Bossy loves this song, off of their 2001 record From Chaos, because it has a vibe.
And Bossy always was a sucker for this brand of white boy reggae.
Also, lyrically speaking, Bossy has an appreciation for how it seems as though the songwriter sat down and wrote it out just as he was feeling it, without the more typical rules of phrasing.
take me away from the norm
I got to tell you something
I had to put it in a song
and it goes like
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy

This has always been one of my fav songs, but somehow I don’t have it on my iPod. Will be taking care of that….thanks for the reminder.

I love this song because it reminds me of when my husband and I were dating and we had LOTS of dirty car sex (the *sex* was dirty, but the car was probably dirty, too) and this song was ALWAYS ON. So when I hear it I automatically am in The Afterglow.

I’ve always been on the fence with 311, I like their vibe and some of the riffs are fantastic, but the same harmony in every song really wears on me

I really love me some white boy reggae too, from the Clash onward through the ska movement with the Engllish beat, Madness and the Specials, up to Sublime et al, but never heard this one somehow!
