Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
311, Amber.
This song isn’t new. And it’s not all that unique or particularly inspired. The band 311 isn’t new, and in fact since forming in Nebraska in 1988 they’ve had all kinds of hits. But Bossy loves this song, off of their 2001 record From Chaos, because it has a vibe.
And Bossy always was a sucker for this brand of white boy reggae.
Also, lyrically speaking, Bossy has an appreciation for how it seems as though the songwriter sat down and wrote it out just as he was feeling it, without the more typical rules of phrasing.
Brainstorm
take me away from the norm
I got to tell you something
this phenomenon
I had to put it in a song
and it goes like
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy

September 16, 2010 at 11:55 amI love this song because it reminds me of when my husband and I were dating and we had LOTS of dirty car sex (the *sex* was dirty, but the car was probably dirty, too) and this song was ALWAYS ON. So when I hear it I automatically am in The Afterglow.

September 16, 2010 at 4:17 pmI’ve always been on the fence with 311, I like their vibe and some of the riffs are fantastic, but the same harmony in every song really wears on me

October 14, 2010 at 10:42 pmI really love me some white boy reggae too, from the Clash onward through the ska movement with the Engllish beat, Madness and the Specials, up to Sublime et al, but never heard this one somehow!
