In 1993, Bossy and her brother and her son and her mother found themselves in a minivan on their way to Florida to visit friends and family:
At the time, everyone in that minivan was preparing for a major change. Bossy had recently decided to live somewhere other than the city and was fretting her next move. Bossy’s son would soon leave his old school and friends and move where he had neither. Bossy’s brother was about to travel with a band for an extended stay in Japan, where he would meet his eventual wife. And Bossy’s mom was in her own post-divorce flux and feeling the crossroads of her collective offspring.
Bossy and her brother and her son and her mother passed their thirty-four collective hours in the car giggling, plotting their next pulled pork sandwich, and, mostly, listening to Deepak Chopra.
Deepak Chopra is a doctor, spiritual guide, and motivational speaker spiritual doctor guide. At the time, he had just released a series of audio cassettes because Gah had not yet invented technology. And this series of audio cassettes was called Journey Into Healing: Awakening the Wisdom Within You, but you can call it Journey Into Healing: Awakening the Wisdom Within You for short.
And there in that sound booth dressed as a Mazda Minivan, Bossy and her brother and her son and her mother discovered that the way they think and feel and behave alters their biology.
Right there on the ribbon of those antiquated magnetic tapes, Deep Dark Chocolate Deepak Chopra professed that the concept of aging isn’t a given; through meditation, a sturdy belief system, and simple exercises, one can keep oneself youthful.
Fast forward nearly twenty years when Bossy is a muckle of frizz in the midst of a divorce, and Bossy’s friend Deepak Chopra thought Bossy might benefit from receiving and reviewing a copy of Deepak Chopra’s Leela, a collaboration with THQ.
That’s right, there’s a meditation video game. At first, Bossy thought it was a strange pairing of concepts: stress-relief and video game. And Bossy doubted her ability to become one with the universe when the desk inches from her enlightened fingertips was piled with last year’s paperwork, and the extra blankets were forming Mount Fuji in the corner of the family room:
But before long, thanks to the measured timbre of Deepak’s wise voice, Bossy was getting into it:
Leela is split into two parts. Play invites users to connect with their chakras through gentle movements, performing such tasks as grabbing circles of energy and riding those currents up to the sky, which is hippy for You collect energy by twisting your upper body to the left and right to move light bubbles to the top of the screen:
The second part of Leela is Reflect, which is guided or independent meditation allowing you to focus on breathing and turning your attention within.
In conclusion, Bossy would prefer to meditate in a breezy light-filled artist’s loft one block from Laguna Beach. But since this isn’t Bossy’s lot in life, at least Leela encourages its participants to carve a part out of each day to slow down the crazy and focus on the mind and body.
And who exactly can’t benefit from that?
This is where you come into it.
Bossy’s friends at her ad network and Deepak Chopra are partnering to give away one Wii console and one copy of Leela to one lucky Bossy reader! All you have to do to be entered for a chance to win is comment below, answering the question, How do you currently relieve stress?

November 14, 2011 at 4:32 pmWhen my dog, Emily, died in 2009 it took me about 4 months to realize that my brain was melting. I melted down pretty spectacularly when she died so it’s understandable that the long term version might go unnoticed. I finally figured out that my meditation time had been my dog walking. I never wore headphones and I rarely talked on the phone when I walked her and I let her decide where we’d go so it was basically just 30 minutes of letting my mind do its own thing. Without her I wasn’t walking or slowing down or dealing at all so I had to figure out where to find that time on purpose. Now I have Eddie, he’s a smaller, peppier, higher maintenance dog but I’m getting my meditation groove back on, albeit in smaller chunks.

December 2, 2011 at 12:23 amYou mean without ALCOHOL? Just kidding. Really! I have a problem with stress but have learned when being taken to the knees with illness years ago, to try not to sweat the small stuff. I had to learn to let things go by not allowing that type A personality to surface. Lately, my stress could not be more present, with a new baby grand daughter who lives-in with her mommy, with tween and teen schedules and doc appointments. With another daughter, we are on a daily mission to will her tiny 11 week premature infant to strength and non assisted help…so he can come home. I guess the stress is still there but you learn to tone it down by reflecting WHAT is really important in your life and how to tune out or at least work with the bad. I also find myself whispering prayers throughout the day. Well, some of them are not whispers but a hardy GOD, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD>>> A little HELP down here please? LOL!

December 5, 2011 at 11:26 amI don’t have any one set way that I find balance and peace. But, so much of it just involves slowing down long enough to take a deep breath or two. My morning shower is some of my only “me time” of the day. I stock it with yummy smelling shower gels and try to wake up a few minutes early so that I can not rush through it…to take a few refocusing deep breaths before I start my day. It’s a great time to think about the day ahead and put things into perspective.

December 8, 2011 at 6:02 pmI relieve (or used to before having a child!) stress by taking bubble baths that lasted for hours. Now I am lucky to get a 5 minute shower with out being interrupted. I do try to steal away for a relaxing massage twice a year or so.

December 8, 2011 at 6:05 pmAdmittedly, I play video games to get some stress relief but fun board games do the trick too. Did I mention chocolate….

December 8, 2011 at 6:44 pmwhat do I do to relieve stress?? first, shut off all electronics, except for the dvd player, into which you should put some meditating and relaxing music… with no words, just soft, gentle music… I have a couple “by the sea” dvds.. which is very calming…. just closing your eyes and taking deep breaths…imagining you are at the seaside. Then its off to a hot shower, as hot as you can stand it, followed by a minute of ice cold, then back to hot again… this will first relax you, then quicken you energy wise. All the while you have had a pot of peppermint, lemon ginger tea steeping. After putting on some loose fitting lounge-wear, I snuggle up in the bed, sitting up but with a wrapped fuzzy throw around my shoulders, sipping the tea,, and just relaxing!

December 8, 2011 at 8:37 pmCurrently I’m a stress maniac with all my responsibilities. The only thing that provides some stress relief is when all my children are sound asleep and the house is quiet and I can just sit without tending to others. That’s blissful to me. Just sitting in the quiet.
