Raise your hand if you remember the Janet Jackson video Love Will Never Do (Without You).
Now raise your hand if you are annoyed with song titles that feature parenthesis. For instance, why isn’t the song called (Love) Will Never Do Without (You)? Or (Love Will) Never Do Without (You)?
Anyway. The video for this song, released in 1989, was set in a paradisiacally paradisal paradise. Also it was a beach. And on this beach, men romped:
And on this beach, men did gymnastics:
And on this beach, Janet Jackson pawed a model in silhouette:
But the best thing about this video was the lighting, which lit everyone up from within and without. But mostly with:
But what Bossy really wants to tell you is that Bossy’s apartment features Janet Jackson lighting in Bossy’s bathroom! Which is only a bathroom in the academic sense:
The lighting emanates from two chintzy hardware store fixtures hung above a sink too small to rest a contact lens — and yet those faux brass sconces emit the warm glow of a sunset beach, even on a chilly winter morning:
Oh, a photo of Bossy in the shower – been waiting for that, thanks.
And in answer to your questions: YES, it is BOSSY.
Bossy is very observant of the lighting of this video since it was directed by the wonderful (and late) Herb Ritts! Loved that video, gave me an awfully warm and fuzzy feeling way back when…
One of my favorite videos. Congrats on you’re lighting. My bathroom lighting is practically non-existent. Which can be a good thing sometimes…
Oh my, yes….it is definitely Bossy!! THAT would never have occurred to me! Bossy…I think you need, er, something?
Your professor looks a little like an alien, with laser beams emanating from his eyes.
But I’m married to a photographer who says, yes, you must get light in the eyes, always.
I guess that is why I always blink when a photographer is trying to take a picture with everybody’s eyes open. My eyes know they are getting light in them 🙂
I want Herb Ritts’ zombie to come back and follow me around my house, taking gorgeous pictures of me all day long while I fold laundry and change out toilet paper rolls.
