This past weekend Bossy was invited to a Murder Mystery Dinner at her friend Martha’s house. Bossy was assigned the role of Marilyn Merlot, and when Bossy tells you she has nothing in her closet resembling movie star chic what she is really saying is she has nothing in her closet resembling movie star chic.
Bossy wanted to fulfill her duty as proper mystery guest by attempting to honor the dress-up code, but lord Bossy had no money to throw at it. And although the thrift store occurred to Bossy early on, it is very hit or miss, which means mostly miss with a side of miss.
Nevertheless, Bossy skulked over there and lingered by the six available dresses and, would you believe, there was a dress in her size, where her size equals long as the weekend is short.
Oh, and it was Fancy Dress Sale day at the thrift store, and so her $5.00 Marilyn Merlot dress was half off.
Bossy hasn’t been this lucky since she found her $15 wedding dress hanging on a thrift store shower curtain.
This is Bossy in the thrift store dressing room. Not to be overrun by glamour all at once, she is, naturally, wearing man shoes:

March 30, 2009 at 9:29 amGreat find! I love when it works out like that. I know what you mean about the “mostly miss with a side of miss,” especially when you’re looking for something in particular with a deadline. Can you come to NY so some of your good luck can rub off on me?

March 30, 2009 at 10:36 amI think I wore that dress as a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding, and no I’m not kidding. I also had to pay infinitely more than 2.50 for it. Dang it all to hell.
p.s. You rock that dress much more than I did.

March 31, 2009 at 9:51 amWhile I must admit to admiring your thriftiness and the dress (gorgeous, purple is SO in), I must admit to a tiny bit of hate of your skinny ass too. (looks great tho)

March 31, 2009 at 10:59 amMy daughter,Sorority Girl with Frat Boyfriend, has dressy dances to attend at least 4 times a year.
We got on the mailing list for David’s Bridal. We get emails whenever they have end of the season sales. Next week she is going to a formal in a $200 dress we got last Fall for $29. She saw it this past weekend in JC Penney for $200.
Save the Merlot dress. Bossy’s daughter might need it someday for a dance or a fabulous part in a musical production.
