For the most part, this girl is imitating the moves made popular in African Dance. The girl can’t help it if many of these same moves have been lifted for sexualized pop music videos. Bossy wouldn’t ship her the pole, in other words.
She’s a talented little girl. I agree with Tasha, Spinoff AND Bossy (#12). The part I find disturbing is the fact that someone, probably her parents, videoed this child and put her on YouTube.
Her dancing is definately based on traditional African Dance which is awesome to watch.
As Bossy said, you can’t blame her that all we see is the bastardized version of these dances done by one-hit wonders and those that I scratch my head at wonder why they even had one “hit” to begin with.
That being said,I think I would send her for some real training with a true teacher of African dance because she does have talent – and Bossy, she doesn’t have to have a fookin’ bun! Something to think about for Bossy’s Delightful Daughter.
So what’s up with me that I could watch all of the baby-dance to “Single Ladies” (thanks, NellyFrittata/32) but not the little girl with all her socks-on-tile excellent moves?
Ah well, good end of the day entertainment. thanks, all.
Looks like Zoomba – latest dance craze exercise phenomenon. Didn’t like the one part near the end of the first minute when she rubbed her self up and down. That kinda made me shudder a bit. Other than that, pretty good moves for any 7 year old and amazing that she can remember the whole routine.
The only thing I found mildly disturbing is that she didn’t smile. Hell, if I could move like that (and believe me I fookin’ try!) I would be smiling, laughing, and probably shouting too! #39 above made me giggle. She probably is better off going to play outside. Imagine the exuberance of doing this en plein aire.
1. Does the girl have joints?
2. Is she taking lessons, because the girl is probably a dance prodigy if she can move like that at 7.
3. Perhaps I’m tired, but I’m a prude, and I wasn’t too disturbed by the dancing. I’m thinking because it’s probably not sexualized in the little gir’s minds. Just our adult interpretation.
The girl has rhythm. Disturbing nonetheless. I have two granddaughters that age and am pretty sure she is totally unaware of the sexual thing….which makes it kind of cool. Mom needs to get her to some dance classes. She has talent.
My 8 year old takes dance class…hip hop no less, in which a lot of the moves might be questionable…and I use to feel a little weary. One day another mother said something to the teacher and she said back to her…”your daughter is 8. Unless you are letting her watch, read or hear you talk about having sex, she doesn’t know anything other than she is dancing, moving her body to the beat of the music and feeling it lead her. Kids don’t think they are dacing “sexy” if we don’t tell them they are.” That shut that mama up quick and it made ALOT of sense to me. My daughter is really talented and as far as she knows she is a good dancer, not sexy.
I get the feeling we’ll be seeing her again someday, and she’s gonna be huge (not physically).
If only I had 1/10th of her moves I’d be getting my groove on every single day! Love it!
The future Shakira.
WOW! That kid can move. Shake it, baby!
She’s talented! However, I am more than a little skeeved by a little girl performing sexualized dance moves.
Oh my God…there IS a chance for white people!
‘scuze me…whities.
Whoa. I’m with Tasha.
Tahsa and Spinoff – All she needs is a pole, huh? Very disconcerting…
Love it!
Okay, that’s equal parts hilarious, amazingly awesome and disturbing.
For the most part, this girl is imitating the moves made popular in African Dance. The girl can’t help it if many of these same moves have been lifted for sexualized pop music videos. Bossy wouldn’t ship her the pole, in other words.
Wow! When my kids were seven, they couldn’t even memorize their addresses, much less dance moves like that. She’s awesome.
She’s a talented little girl. I agree with Tasha, Spinoff AND Bossy (#12). The part I find disturbing is the fact that someone, probably her parents, videoed this child and put her on YouTube.
Sexual moves?!? I see amazing dancing and a talented little girl with rythm. I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

She didn’t compose it the same way Mozart composed. But she certainly built upon what she saw and ROCKED IT. Go, tiny dancer, go!
In awe. Of it all. I wish I could dance like that–bet I’d lose 10 lbs in a hurry.
Her name is Elvina à Lille.

AND . . . she did all that in socks, on a tile floor. Makes it even more impressive. I can’t even walk in socks on a tile floor.
Get down with your bad self, little girl.

At what age to our legs stop being Gumby and get stiff?
That is pure talent. Her rhythm is instinctive. I’m way jealous.
Napoleon Dynamite has competition.
testing, testing, one,two, three, testing.
HEEEY! GETONUP! HEEEY! UPONONELEG!
James Brown
I’m not sure I’d encourage my daughters to dance like that. However, they probably did. And had a blast dancing.
Totally Twyla Tharp. Awesome.
I agree on the African moves. She dance just the way I have seen women in African dance – reincarnation, anyone?
Damn!
Talent, sure. But Bossy doesn’t REALLY believe this is Mozart level, right?
Little girl was probably like this when she was a baby:

How did you get that clip of Martha at age 6??? We should all be so in touch with our tribal roots! Love it, want to move it and shake it!
I was good for 1 minute and 9 seconds of it. Did she do something astounding in the last 2 minutes that I should go back and watch?
So what’s up with me that I could watch all of the baby-dance to “Single Ladies” (thanks, NellyFrittata/32) but not the little girl with all her socks-on-tile excellent moves?

KEEP BELIEVING
Oh Lordy, that little girl can dance!! Its so sad I could never do that. I admire that!
That is a lot of talent : )
I think she’d be a lot better off to go play outside, read a book, etc. I found it mildly disturbing.

Just as, if not moreso. Agree that sexualization is in the perception/intention. Didn’t see it here, and I am hypersensitive to such.
Loved it yesterday when I first saw it. Still loving it today. Dance on, little girl.

OK, off the soapbox. …this girl is good!
