Scary, crazy, sad, vindictive, defensive, egotistical, delusional, high, unapologetic, maniacal, smart, stupid, arrogant, offensive, and manic are just a few of the words that come to mind regarding Charlie Sheen‘s recent media attention, which comes on the heels of his sitcom’s cancellation, which comes on the heels of his bad behavior.
My two goddesses, defeat’s not an option, epic behavior, we’re winning, and I’m a rock star are more words, but these are courtesy of Charlie Sheen himself, during last night’s interview on 20/20.
Oh, wise esteemed council, do you have anything to add?
I’m on a new drug, it’s called Charlie sheen”
How about “off his meds” and “obviously clinically mentally ill?”
I feel sorry for him. He’s having a very, very public meltdown.
I’m a bit tired of the media attention. He’s obviously ill and needs medical and psychiatric help, but instead, everyone and their brother is lining up for interviews.
Sad to see someone prove, yet again, that money can’t buy happiness. Wonder if he ever thought to be thankful for anything? Time he got serious about getting help, retiring, and getting over himself.
Oh Gnarly Gnarlington!
1. The face of mental illness.
2. The networks need to stop providing a pulpit for his rants.
3. His poor family has lived with this for nearly 45 years.
4. Thank God the children are out of his custody.
“Asshat” comes to mind.
Feeling so so sorry for Martin Sheen and all the rest of them who care.
was happy to read this morning that his kids were taken away from him and back with their mother.
also, i’ve seen that face of mental illness before – it is not pretty and VERY SCARY! he needs help NOW.
I agree that it’s time for the media to quit provoking the rants and raves. It’s a trainwreck and everybody wants to watch.
We’ve seen it before with Lindsey Lohan and Brittney Spears. When you have your breakdowns in public you are crucified, when you have them in private you are admired. Somebody needs to get a court ordered hospitalization before we get up one morning and read that he is dead.
As sad as he is he shares many similarities regarding the delusions with a certain Wisconsin politician. I am finding that kind of funny even though I will be getting a $6000 a year pay cut thanks to our Gov. At least Charlie isn’t impacting my paycheck.
Personally, I’d like to see a little less blaming of the media for his behavior. The media is not provoking his rants and raves. The media is reporting on it. And they do so because people (with a few exceptions) want to see it. The interviews are happening because each interviewer wants to be the one to catch the soundbyte that everyone will be quoting. (Case in point: Bossy’s reference to “last night’s interview on 20/20.”) Not point in condemning the media, which is only doing its job. When I get sick of hearing about something, I turn the channel or mute it.
I can’t watch or look at any of it because it is like seeing a horrific car versus train crash. Sad..sad..and just sad.
He’s clearly mentally ill. It is both mesmerizing and hard to watch. It is very sad.
Suzanne beat me to the gnarly comment. Charlie may have tiger blood and Adonis DNA but he looks like hell and needs more help than closing his eyes and willing his brain can offer.
He is out of his everlovin mind…
Trying to avoid the coverage. Hard to do. The logical conclusion is CS dead much too young. Better he should have a clean period in his life and get to know his children.
Sorry, but crazy is mesmerizing. I wrote about him too.
Send help now!
I have two words.
1)Train
2)Wreck
i’ve always liked his daddy and his brother mo’ better. go watch Badlands or Repo Man and ignore the other guy.
“I’m sick of saying I’m not special”. Oh, but you are Charlie, ’cause you are the only person from Mars I know of.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, in spades. Can it be treated? Yes. Is it treated? Rarely. Because people with NPD don’t have a problem. It’s everyone else who has the problem. You know how they say the first step is admitting you have a problem? Well, he doesn’t have a problem (in his whacked out mind), therefore there can be no recovery. I think his next bender just might kill him. Because if he thinks this white-knuckle sobriety thing is going to last very long, he’s deluding himself.
Do we really need more “All Charlie, All The Time” reportage? Sadly, he’ll continue his public meltdown because the viewing public wants to see it. Why? My opinion is that allows people to look at him and say, “Things may be shitty for me right now, but at least I’m not THAT messed up.”
I LOVE BADLANDS, too. One of my faves.
I have been watching a lot of the coverage because I took a nasty fall and it’s just right there! Everywhere. He is in a psychiatric state of emergency. His appearance on Today this morning showed his Tiger Blood fading a bit. I wish he would go check himself in. Fat chance.
I do wish I had a mercury surfboard, though.
Sad, sad, sad.
I will never be able to watch his show again without seeing the real-life Charlie.
There should never have been an interview. He needs help not exploitation for ratings. We should only interview obviously disturbed people for good reasons, like they are the leader of Iran.
shoot, missed 20/20 last night! oh well, guess I missed the crazy train! glad bossy’s counsel could catch me up – xoxo
Wouldn’t we all rather hear reports about the travels of Bossy’s Darling Son? He’s MUCH more interesting than Crazytrain Sheen! C’mon, Bossy — what have you heard fron Buenos Aires?
All I can say is GET THOSE TWO LITTLE BOYS AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!! Oh my God! What judge could watch this interview and actually allow him to have joint custody???
I think watching this entitled, delusional, degenerate guy is like a morality play. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
I feel so sorry for him.
He is mentally ill.
You can hear it: the delusions of grandeur. The metaphors that make sense only to him.
It’s like watching Britney Spears all over again.
His poor family…to see this.
I am becoming increasingly frustrated, not with the media coverage (which I”m mostly avoiding/ignoring) but with the public’s reactions. It makes me so sad to hear the glib reactions. Charlie Sheen may be the biggest douche in the world, but he’s also clearly suffering from bi-polar disorder. This whole situation could be an excuse to talk seriously about mental health awareness and care in this country, but instead, people prefer to snark. I feel like asking people, What if it were your son/brother/husband?
I, too, feel we’re all witnessing this man have a complete mental breakdown. I can’t bring myself to watch the interviews either, although I’ve been told snippets by friends. I remember when Britney was having her breakdown and many people thought it was hilarious, and all I could do was feel bad for her and hope that someone would step in and save her before she went too far and lost her life. Thank goodness someone did. I don’t know whether it’s too late for Charlie or not, but I sincerely hope not. I don’t want to watch anyone fall apart like that. They’re human beings, after all.
Charlie who?
He is 10 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag.
It’s sad. He looks positively green. And you know there’s nothing right going on inside that head.
It brings to mind the “Octomom” thing. We’re all so fascinated by all the crazy that it turns into a media feeding frenzy and there’s no way the person can get out from under it. Sad. Dude is sick.
So sad that this is another example who surrounds himself with “Yes” men who think anything he says or does is influential perfect and brillant. He needs to be put under a conservatorship aka Brittany. His Dad Martin (Who was quite the wild boy back in the day) needs to be in charge. 5 kids? WHY do women keep having kids with bad boys? WHY? WHY? What are we teaching our kids?
I can’t imagine what it is like to be his father or brother and see him on TV with that wild insane look in his eyes. It’s like watching someone die. I hate it.
Oh man, Charlie used to be my pretend boyfriend…we broke up in the 90’s.
I’m still sad because my ex is clearly in need of medical attention. I too laughed at the things he said. I feel guilty about it though. He’s insane. He needs meds. I wouldn’t laugh at a cancer tumor and Charlie has as much control over his brain as someone with cancer does over their body.
I believe that poor guy is a wingnut. I believe I LOVE # 7 Alesias word “Asshat”!!! Thankyou, I believe that word has now become part of my vocabulary.
“Oh, wise esteemed council, do you have anything to add?”
Change. The. Channel.
Did you paint that picture of him? So simple but looks exactly like him. Great job.
um.
He cracks me up?
Framed within the context of Hollywood extremism and extravagance, what’s not to like?
He’s a rock star from Mars.
I think Charlie’s said it all. Hopefully he’ll shut up and get some help sometime soon.
He exposed people to magic.
I absolutely could NOT care less about this person. Why waste one’s breath discussing him? Seriously.
–>”Still Winning!”
He has a proven history of violence toward women. He seems to have mental health problems. He needs help now! Can he be committed?
That’s what we get for picking a fight with a warlock…
I think just because he is a “celebrity” the media could have evaluated this situation and deduced that clearly he is unwell, dangerous and in need of serious help, not overexposure in a very public forum. Schizophrenic and bipolar breaks are never seen by the person having them so…who is going to be the grown up here? I don’t think when he was “well” he would have been my favorite person but the humane thing to do is not to exploit his demise as “entertainment”.
In Michigan, your family can file for commitment if you are a danger to yourself or others. Not sure why this hasn’t been done unless their state law prevents it.
On a positive note, he resurrected the word “skuldugerry” so we have something to be thankful for during this blatant irresponsible chronicle of the demise of a mentally ill person.
Yup – I am with commenter #24. NPD…
And I want to add that he looks HORRIBLE. I have only recently tuned in to the whole media frenzy, so I have to ask at the risk of sounding terribly ignorant, who are the goddesses? Those nannies? Why the name?
interesting take on the charlie “tigerblood” sheen phenomena in the new york times. his shit should have been shut down a long time ago.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/04/opinion/04holmes.html?_r=1&hp
Wait, you’re talking about Charlie Sheen? I could have sworn you were describing my crazy-ass, drunk-ass, narcissistic, womanizing, asshole asshat of an ex-husband.
There. That felt good. Sorry for all the asses.
Ha! “My two goddesses” sounds like a new sitcom!!
Winning Duh!!!!
I feel sorry for the cast of his show. They are ALL canceled and out of a job.
if using a quote from Apocolyse Now for a new tattoo is where his is head is at…kind of a scary place…don’t know if it is due to drugs/mental health/brain damage due to drugs…but wouldn’t want to be around it…or have kids around it…
Is that a pop-up ad? Noooooo!
Disney pop-up !~! On Bossy’s blog. What does it mean?
I never liked the show the 2 or 3 times I watched it. It wasn’t all that funny, and there was way too much sex in it. He seemed so arrogant, but maybe that was the character he was playing. I won’t miss the show at all.
I enjoyed Jon Cryer’s rebuttal after the attack, calling him a troll. Yes, Charlie Sheen is mentally ill, and it’s sad and scary to watch. I think if he actually came off drugs and is stone cold sober, he did it too fast, and his brain is so chemically screwed up (on top of the mental illness), that he is treading in dangerous waters, and the people who actually care about him (not fame hungry “goddesses”, slick agents, or other posse) like his family are completely helpless to watch him spiral down the drain. This week, Mike Starr was found dead (likely of OD), and he was as screwed up on drugs as Charlie (although different drugs), and everyone calls their self medicating “a disease”. Addiction is really sad, and although it requires the same treatment as a disease for overcoming it, it’s self inflicted, so not a disease. It’s like comparing cancer to crack, and saying they’re the same. Anyway, I hope they find some way to help him. Seems like the more money some people earn, the more out of touch with reality they become. And some people handle it well.
and Asshat!!!! I’m loving that one, assimilating it into my vocabulary!!!!
